IT’S WATERFALL SEASON in Shenandoah National Park! 🔥 Since it’s National Park Week, I thought I’d share some of my favorite waterfall hikes in my favorite National Park. Shenandoah has so many beautiful waterfalls, and mid-late spring is a great time to check them out! Of course, you can save them for summer too when you need a place to cool off. 😊 Check out these 12 amazing hikes in SNP: [📌SAVE to plan your next hike!] 👉🏼Which one are you trying first?? ⛔️Help preserve the beauty of Shenandoah by staying on established trails, packing out all waste (even food scraps 🐻), respecting wildlife, and leaving what you find. Visit lnt.org for more info! ⛔️ 📍Cedar Run Falls [Hard] 📍White Oak Canyon [Hard; for something easier, just hike 1.5 miles to lower White Oak Falls from the parking area on Weakly Hollow Road] 📍Naked Creek Falls [Hard] 📍Lewis Spring Falls [Moderate] 📍Dark Hollow Falls [Moderate] 📍Rose River Falls [Moderate] 📍Doyle’s River Falls [Moderate] 📍Jones Run Falls [Moderate] 📍Overall Run Falls [Moderate from Matthews Arm campground] 📍Hazel Falls [Moderate] 📍Big Rock Falls [Easy-Moderate] 📍South River Falls [Moderate] 🥾Keep in mind most of these hikes involve decent elevation gain, as you’ll have to hike down to the falls and back out again. The terrain can be rocky, steep, and treacherous when wet, so please use caution! Wear sturdy shoes and bring poles if you have them.

Amazing point for Sunrise. Other nearby outlooks(Buck Hollow Overlook & Tunnel Parking Overlook) are great too. Check all of them if possible. Just make sure to check cloud cover and rain chances before visiting. There were cloud both times I visited there in May 2021. Luckily we had different kind of sunrise experiences with clouds and Sun. Note: None of the images are edited. Check out my videos in the Photos section too.

Amazing easy hike that rewards with one of the best views in Shenandoah. Wildflowers paradise during late May. If you can hike along the path between Upper Hawksbill parking and Hawksbill Gap parking during month of May, you'll be rewarded with one of the most scenic woodlands hike with you alone. I've done over 50 hikes in all seasons and I'd have to say I enjoyed this short stretch of 1.8 miles the most during mid May.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hazel Mountain Overlook, located at milepost 33.0 along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, is a captivating spot that offers a unique blend of geological intrigue and scenic beauty. Perched at an elevation of 2,770 feet, this overlook provides southeast-facing views that are particularly stunning during sunrise, making it a favorite among photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.

One of the standout features of this overlook is the visible granodiorite rock formation, a type of intrusive igneous rock that forms deep beneath the Earth’s surface. This geological feature not only adds to the visual appeal but also offers a glimpse into the ancient processes that shaped the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The overlook is easily accessible, with a dedicated parking area and a short path leading to the viewing spot. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil ambiance, often accompanied by the sounds of nature, making it an ideal location for relaxation and reflection. The presence of a distinctive lone pine tree atop the rock formation adds a picturesque element to the landscape, enhancing its photographic allure.

Whether you’re embarking on a scenic drive through Shenandoah National Park or seeking a peaceful spot to witness the sunrise, Hazel Mountain Overlook offers an unforgettable experience that combines natural beauty with geological significance. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone...
