Disappointing Experience at June Lake – Rude Staff & Outdated Policies
We arrived at June Lake hoping for a relaxing day at the beach, but instead were met with outdated policies and a parking attendant on a power trip. First of all, cash only in 2025? It’s honestly ridiculous that a popular destination still refuses to take cards when most places are going cashless. It’s inconvenient and unnecessary.
The real issue, though, was the parking lot attendant a man in a golf cart who clearly takes his job way too seriously and treats visitors like a nuisance. After our party who couldn’t get in due to having no cash dropped off my elderly father-in-law, we tried to drive up to pick him back up and were immediately barked at for not doing a full circle of the lot—even though a simple U-turn would have been easier and safer. He reluctantly allowed the U-turn what a gracious parking lot god.
While circling the lot like any normal parking situation, we were told that’s not allowed (despite no signs stating this and other drivers doing the same). His reasoning? “I have to park people.” Excuse me? Are we not people? We had a numbered parking pass!
When we explained our group was on the far side of the lake, he smugly told us to use the next lot “100 yards away, I think you can handle it.” Seriously? Then, as if to keep tabs on us, he drove over to “check on us.” The whole interaction was condescending and killed the beach day vibe.
June Lake itself is beautiful, but the experience was soured by poor customer service, confusing parking rules, and an unnecessarily hostile staff member. We just had a death in the family and were honoring that person and were hoping for a relaxing end to our trip unfortunately this was not...

It would be such a great destination for a weekend getaway camping trip! But unfortunately, June lake does not allow camping overnight :"( There is a campground very close by though, but they are closed during the wintertime.
We visited June lake in mid March, and surprisingly we could still see lots of snow on the mountains, and also big patches of ice by the lake. The views were seriously incredible. I honestly loved the walking path from the parking lot to the beach, it makes walking at the beach less sandy and much enjoyable. I thought that was super thoughtful. The only con would be the wind, I think it's because it's surrounded by the mountains, so it can be really chilly and windy.
All in all, such a beautiful place. Would recommend to dress warmer if you plan for a visit during the Spring. Not to mention, it's only 20+ mins or so away from Mammoth lake. Def...
Read moreThe June Lake Loop is a wavy ride around a majestic clear blue lake with a large sandy beach on one side. My dog and I got in some good kayaking and spent some time on the beach. The water was just the clearest and freshest of all the lakes up here in the region. We came across deer and elk in the wooded areas close to the water. That was lovely. Just sitting quietly in the water seeing them feeding and strolling through the trees by the water. Didn't think I'd see elk but we some elk up along the coast of Cambria in the woods by the coast, so you never know. The little town with little inns is worth a visit, we prefer camping by the sandy beach side for early kayaking starting points, but it's all worth a look at. The water again, is just amazingly clear blue. It is a photographers dream, if you like to take...
