Wow this place definitely earned 5 stars from myself my husband and the rest of the family. Thank you again for Yelp for helping me find the perfect site for our camping needs. Originally I had reserved site 101 but then I cancelled and when I went back to reserve it, it had already been taken... so I was able to look on the site map and read other reviews to see what would be a great location to stay at, and site 134 was highly recommended. Boy did we make the right choice...first off 101 does have a great view and location next to the creek, but it's more or less ideal for just a couple trying to get away with not as much space as 134 had. We had so much more room to roam around in at 134 and there's a lot of extra space for additional tents for a larger group. It was nice to be able to cross over the rocks and have a little secluded area along the creek to relax and get your feet wet.
The only downside is the store charges a lot more than other campsites that we have been too for just a few pieces of wood so next year when we head up we're going to bring an axe so that way we can get some extra firewood on our own without having to pay 11 bucks for a box of 6 pieces of wood, lol. Any recommendation for future Camp goers that want to stay at Lodgepole, you definitely need to reserve a spot at least a week to two weeks in advance and it is nice and convenient to do this all online instead of driving up and realizing they're completely full! But if you don't get to select the location or site online and you get lucky to have a spot... the entire Campground is just extremely well cared for, and gorgeous all around. I look forward to next year camping at this same...
Read moreWe stayed at #135 upper loop and the creek or stream is right behind this site which is nice. #135 has good enough privacy and pretty good size site compared to some of the other site that would fit only a 4 person tent and zero privacy.
The bad part of the campground is that the restroom was disgusting. There was no cleaning service at all the 3 days we were there. Men's shower facility has 3 out of 5 stalls working and people are lined up around 5PM dinner prep time because they close everything at 7PM.
The first night we camped there, there was a couple cars driving for about 15 minutes in the wrong way in upper loop late evening. Then around 10PM a newer model Ford Bronco showed up setting up camp at the site(#134) next to us and started cooking food and gather around the campfire they just started at 11PM. The 3 of them were speaking some foreign European language not as loud but chatting all the way till 2 or 3AM. Next morning, they broke down their tent really early and left right after 7AM. It was almost like they wanted to leave quick before they were noticed.
Then right after they left, around 8:30AM this group of 4 men started setting up tents at the same site #134. It was almost like they coordinated the timing. The new group told us that they transferred from another site because the one they reserved would not fit 2 tents. It was so strange what was going on at this campground. I have never seen anything like it. Also, people are very active at night all over the campground unlike other campground we stayed at.
Lastly, there was no shuttle starting September 2 for the winter due to...
Read moreWe camped here for a couple nights early in September. Being there at the weekend meant it was quite crowded and occasionally noisy but not too bad. Our site was a short walk from the river so we went for an afternoon walk to the falls (although at this time of year the water wasn't flowing nearly as much as we thought) and had another day chilling by the river which was very relaxing. On the way back we also spotted a bear strolling through the forest and munching on some berries which was amazing and the first bear I've seen in the wild!||We were planning on have a chill night but read about a lecture that evening about how plant life came about and adapted over the years so decided to go and listen. We found the talk from Ranger Violet so interesting, having a great balance of being informative yet still manageable to understand regardless of your background or age - it even had an interactive part of the lecture which was fun!||We hiked a trail from the campground to see the General Sherman tree - it's HUGE. You could drive but we found the walk very manageable and was nice to get out of the car every so often.||Overall we found this to be a nice campsite with good amenities and easy access. It's surrounded by beautiful scenery and there are multiple walks right from the campsite. The Ranger-led program was a bonus given we didn't know it was a thing but was thoroughly enjoyable and something different to do in...
