Views of The Dalles Dam on the Columbia River, and I down fishing platforms ( be respectful and keep a distance from the platforms or any Indian fishing gear) This is a historic Indian fishing ground in what was the bottom end of a roiling chasm known as Les Dalles by early French Canadian fur trappers. A Dalle is a gutter back in France. This part of the river was squeezed by volcanic rock to a narrow channel of perhaps 40 yrds from about a mile wide river!! It was a crazy disorienting experience to traverse by man and fish- so it had to have a name. The Dalles (there were 2 such channels consecutively along the river) were buried under the flood waters of Les Dalles Dam in the late 50's.
