I'm not sure that I would stay at this Shilo Inns The Dalles again. I'm not saying that I absolutely wouldn't either. The first thing I noticed was the large sign in the lobby stating they were short staffed, which is good for people to know so there is a different expectation going in. The front desk staff was polite and greeted us right away and let us know said they would be right with us. Check in was simple and easy. While checking in I asked if they've ever had issues with the front having no ADA accessibility to the front lobby. They mentioned the other building is where the accessible rooms are so there's no issues. There is no wheelchair access to the front lobby for people to check in unless they know to enter through a different building and come all the way down the hall.... ? Then I ended up with an ADA accessible room.... which I didn't need. I was just curious because rolling luggage up stairs made me think about wheelchairs. The hall smelled musty or smoky. The room I got wasn't any better. And the condition of the walls in the bathroom were in desperate need of repair. The beds were decent but not super comfy and they didn't provide any non decaf tea. There was hot chocolate in the lobby and breakfast wasn't terrible. There were eggs and sausage, pastries, fruit, juices and milk. Unfortunately the eggs came with cheese on them so I asked if they had any without and at the time there weren't any. They did say they try to have them normally. Great wifi.

Neighbor from hell, below us. They were people coming and going all day. And night. A larger lady, that had a cackle from hell. That Yelled from the deck. TV so loud into the early morning. We called at 11 to inform, and nothing changed. We also noticed there was a ton of vacant rooms, so why we were above this mob is beyond irritating. What a great way to get away from a stressful life. I was trying to take the family, for a fun trip by hood River, paid off to add more stress. So here I am, the next morning and I feel like I got possible 4 and a half hours of sleep. The rooms are really tiny also. Oh, another thing, room 241 was upstairs next to a hallway door that slammed. The frame was metal on metal. With a cord that made sure it slam hard every time, unless the person hold it to close .So so not relaxing. I'm feeling so frazzled. And like I want to cry. Reading the reviews of recent bed bugs outbreak didn't help either. I'm so much more stressed. This slamming door outside our bedroom door is beyond crazy. I can't believe they don't mention it when they rent this room. Do yourself a favor, save your funds and go to a real relaxing place. So we ended up moving rooms so we didn't waste a weekend and Money, and if you are away from hallway doors. REMEMBER THAT. And on the ground level. This is so you can open your patio door to go to the pool. You will have a beautiful time.

A group I work with had a meeting here at this beautiful setting. The large property is located on the bank of the Columbia River near the Dalles dam. Riverside rooms have a view of the churning water from the dam and the river. It's very pretty. The property is in the middle of a major remodel. The room I stayed in had been partly remodeled. It had new floors, furniture and paint. The toilet and bath were original. The counters have new marble and look great. The room was clean. The beds were comfortable. The wifi was a little slow. The new lobby is spectacular with a wall of windows toward the river. The pool looked nice. I was surprised by how many buildings there were. They'll have a good number of rooms when finished. The restaurant/ bar is under different management. It doesn't open till 11 am. It was hopping with locals till closing at 11pm. The conference room is managed by the restaurant crew and is dated but very clean and well prepared. We had a couple of nice meals for a group of around 40. The WiFi was better in the conference room. The hotel is part of the Choice Privileges program, so you can earn points for that program.

When we arrived on August 1, 2025 at the Columbia River Inn where I had reserved a room I was told the room I had reserved days before was next to a building entry door. I knew that would be noisy and not work for me. The desk person said they had another room but it was on the second floor and the building had no elevator. I am disabled so I declined. She said the only other thing available was a room that was only rented when there was nothing else with an old A/C. The clerk told me the door was soft and wasn't used that much so it should be fine. Both of those are lies. The room number is #140.

I was stuck with the room adjacent to the building access door. There was a window blind with no drape that didn't work. So in addition to the door banging and keeping us awake all through the night, vehicle lights shining into our room brightly added to that. The television wouldn't work right, my partner tried to call the office but the phone wouldn't work, so we never got that figured out.

There were no wash rags in the bathroom.

The exhaust fan in the bathroom doesn't work.

We ordered dinner from The Portage on site restaurant. We simply flushed the Clam Chowder down the toilet. It wasn't edible and I couldn't see any sign of clams in it. The salads were mediocre.

I found the hallways etc. unkempt and dirty. When we arrived the main building door had French Fries and other debri thrown on the ground at the entry. They were still there when we left.

I gave a #2 rating because the bed was pretty good and the room was clean. The room door had to be pulled .. to close tight.

The ice machine was way down the hall and out of service. I walked and walked to find another. The place it was supposed to be was vacant.

I stayed in this motel a couple years ago with my brother when it was still owned by Shiloh but had seen better days. I didn't like it much then but read about all the "big" renovations so thought I could trust that. Obviously those like the soft, quiet door were untruthful.

Some person named Kristi wrote such a heartfelt fake apology to me and said she would do anything to make up for my pathetic time there. I asked for a refund on August 8th and never heard another word.

From this juncture forward I will use "Ascend Motel Collection" as a sign to me not to ever stay there. Pathetic lodging, untruthful advertising...

We had just traveled from a popular destination in Lake Chelan, and paid 125 for the night for a lovely room. We also stayed in an Airbnb with a kitchenette, living room, large bathroom, which included a homemade breakfast, where we paid about 125 as well, and were surprised by the 175+ price tag at the Shilo. We were exhausted and decided to take the room. The person at the front desk was friendlyish, but definitely exasperated by her job. We told her we had called in to make a reservation 10 minutes prior. She stated she hadn't made a reservation 10 minutes ago, as though she couldn't think of any other way that may be possible. She insisted she couldn't find us until we told her we called an 800# online and like magic she found our reservation. She seemed to make easy things painfully difficult. ||Once we got to our room, the lotion dispenser had fallen into the sink, leaving quite a mess for me to clean up. We found the second sink in the shower room had about a quarter inch of sawdust the length of the countertop. We of course didn't have any kind of vacuum to clean it up, so we called the front desk. We were surprised to find the front desk receptionist was the one who had to come clean it up. We assumed there was maintenance of some sort. She was very nice about it. We just felt badly for her. There was dust around the perimeter of the room in certain areas, some pieces of hardware on the floor, and when we woke up to take a shower, I noticed there was no bathroom fan, which in this case turned out OK, because there was not a single drop of hot water at around 7:20AM.||It's very surprising how diligently their automated text system is in asking for feedback. Through text, I let both Kristina Thornton and Doug know my impression of the place. Kristina admitted a refund of some kind was in order, but stopped texting back as did Doug. I called today to check in and got a careless employee named Belle who struggled to find the energy to take my number down. ||I am a motel owner myself, and I understand how tricky remodels can be but I am also horrified by the willingness of these employees to hide from customers instead of just tackling the issue. I'm just not sure this room was quite worth the price we paid and I certainly don't find the employees to be committed to any type of...

Absolutely horrible!|Checking in the lobby looked nice but was freezing cold because the balcony doors were open and there were many frustrated people huddled by the fireplace. |I was not offered a map of the property just a flourish of the girl’s hand saying “your room is down there”.|When I finally found the building with my room, there were a bunch of drunk guys smoking and partying in the parking lot. I don’t know if they were guests and I was never asked for vehicle info, which makes me think they don’t patrol. |I was traveling alone and a little nervous.|Got to my room, it was freezing! There was construction equipment everywhere and I was too afraid to go back outside to get my bags. |The room lighting was cold and minimal and the brightest light was through the curtains from the parking lot lights (parking lot it dark, lights shine on the building). The floors are cheap linoleum and so cold that they cold-burned my feet through wool socks. No heater or fan in the bathroom so my shower was very uncomfortable. It streamed up the room and eventually the very thin blankets became damp. Towels; think paper towels! |The heater has a big gap between it and its mount which also lets light, bugs and cold air in.|I set my take out food on top of the dresser, and by the time I got out of the shower it was filled with ants! |The beds are so high and the floor is so slick that I injured my knee getting out of it to turn the heat up.|The entire place is paper thin so I could hear my upstairs neighbors whispering and many others arguing and partying until well after 2am and it began again around 6am.||I put up the “do not disturb “ bit still housekeeping had many loud personal conversations outside my door, vacuumed outside my door (but no where else) and then a male joined and it was not stop cussing from then until I left! So glad I didn’t have my grandmother or my child with me!||Oh! And in the morning, I couldn’t get to my vehicle because of homeless people with off leash dogs claim g the parking lot and being aggressive! ||DO NOY...
