I would give this salon 15 stars if I could! I had not had a haircut or color since in 2019 -- with the start of Covid, I switched to putting my hair in a pony tail every day and keeping the ends trimmed (did this myself). So - my hair was pretty healthy, but it was also turning gray (I'm 58) and in need of styling.
On the color front, I started coloring and highlighting my hair years ago since my naturally dark hair kind of washed out my face. But in all those years, I never once landed on a color I was truly happy with, and I went to numerous hairdressers (including Van Michael himself). I had cycled through a range of shades including mahogany, chestnut, caramel, blonde, etc., but nothing was ever "the color". My husband agreed, and even now, he was begging me not to color my hair again. One of my besties, however, had been strongly encouraging me to "own my gray".
As per a haircut, I had also had many "okay" cuts over the years, but very few that felt great. Because of all this, I kept wanting to to get a cut and color, but I was also really scared to do so -- so I kept putting it off.
I'd driven past Three-13 many times over the years, and after reading tons of Google reviews, I finally put in call and explained my dilemma to Brynne, who answered the phone. I told her I needed someone really good with color, especially for graying hair, and I told her I'd never once been happy with a color I'd received. I also said I needed a stylist who could work with me on some kind of style that would better frame my face. Brynne recommended Gabby for my stylist and Shannon for color, and - OMG - they were both AMAZING!!!
Gabby talked to my about my hair texture (thin, fine, a tendency towards frizzy and wavy when it's humid, and I have "Irish curls" -- meaning my outer hair is mostly straight but the underlayer is quite curly). She gave me a fabulous cut and very patiently showed me how to blow-dry and style it. I am very low maintenance, so I really appreciate that she gave me a low- maintenance style. I am super happy with it!
Shannon was incredible. She is very knowledgeable about the chemistry of hair and hair color, and she explained to me why I continued to be unhappy with all the color options I had tried over the years. Basically, the color would quickly oxidize and give my skin a sallow tint. She was spot on! She suggested that we do some gentle gray highlights around my face, which would soften the the look and blend with my salt-and-pepper hair. This would also be a good low-maintenance option, since I would only need to color the strands right around my face. So, we did that, and -- WOW!! I am thrilled with the results and have already gotten several compliments. LOL - my husband is in Tokyo at the moment, so I'll try to remember to update this review when he sees me. I also should have taken a photo right afterwards, but my bad.
In the meantime, I have found my new hairstylist and colorist!!!! Gabby and Shannon are both amazing, and I can't say enough good about Three-13!! On a final note, Hannah was wonderful as well. She assisted with the rinsing and coloring process, and made me feel very pampered.
If you're on the sidelines like I was about making a change and trying a new salon, this is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHonestly Iām giving it a two because I enjoyed my stylistās attitude and I donāt blame him at all for the turnout I blame the establishment. I called in as a first time customer and spoke with someone in regards to what I wanted. I was VERY clear I am neurotic about my hair and the last time i tried highlights I hated my hair so much I dyed it black (Iām naturally a dark brown), so I wanted someone experienced. I was booked with someone who had 20 years experience, and was excited. I explicitly dictated the date and time twice, even asking the woman to repeat herself, because I was getting it a week before I was going out of state. Fast forward to the day Iām supposed to have an appointment. I am told I was booked for next week (when Iām already traveling). I explained to her that was very wrong, but am told nonetheless I can either wait hours for that specific tech (mind you Iām already 45 minutes early to the appointment), or I can work with someone who has 2 years experience. I will later learn he didnāt have two years experience, he was essentially going to school for the last 2 years. Now, I think he was great, and everyone has to start somewhere, but the fact of the matter is if someone asks for the highest type of colorist you donāt offer them the month old graduate. The highlights in my hair were wonderful, just a light caramel in my dark brown hair. So I leave for my holiday, wash my hair for the first time, and it comes out brassy blonde. I did not want blonde and I told him thatās what I feared. Even worse an ugly, brassy, blonde. But lo and behold I fell after the ā2 week periodā to have it fixed. Good thing I had asked him what to do if this happened and he said we would apply a toner. So I apply a toner.
My hair is now orange as well as blonde. This is my fault, I know, but Iām upset that I was put in a situation where I had to try, due to inexperience and someone dropping the ball in scheduling. I wouldnāt trust coming back; how would I be taken care of any differently than I was the first time? Really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUPDATE: Management has been absolutely wonderful, and so has Tracy, in making things right after another stylist chopped off 8 inches of my hair. They have both put so much time and effort into fixing the situation for me!! I feel I can change my 1 star review to a 5 star review because 313 sincerely cares about its clientele's satisfaction and ensuring that their work is of the highest quality! The director of operations personally took time out to meet with myself, and Tracy, to come up with a plan to help my hair grow back out in the quickest, most healthy, way possible, and has kept in touch with me about my satisfaction with the steps being taken. While yes I did have a bad experience with one stylist, I can confidently say the salon as a whole has impressively high standards!! They reached far beyond my expectations in correcting my poor experience!! :)
My first experience at 313 was absolutely amazing. Tracy really knew how to cut very long hair, and only cut off a few inches to preserve the length but also remove split ends. She was informative, sweet, and a lovely woman to talk to!
My second experience has been a nightmare. Don't get me wrong, all the staff is courteous. But I literally said "I need my hair trimmed" and "I want to preserve as much length as possible, but I understand if you have to cut 2 to 3 inches for it to be healthy"(as Tracy had done). When I dried my hair I discovered my waist length hair was "trimmed" EIGHT INCHES(I measured), the stylist also put the layers back in my hair, which I did not ever ask her to do nor did she ask me if I wanted them back....she had told me "I cleaned up your layers", when really she cut the layers back all the way above my shoulders!
Hopefully I will be able to change this one star review once I go back in next week to show them, but I am doubtful since my hair cannot be given back to me. My waist length hair was a great source of pride for me. I am absolutely heartbroken over the loss of my...
