Port Orford Heads State Park boasts three small trails that yield jaw-dropping ocean views. The Tower trail leads from the Lifeboat Station Museum to what was once the location of an observation tower. The Cove Trail overlooks scenic Nellie’s Cove and breathtaking views of coastal bluffs. Peer down into the cove to see the remains of the old Coast Guard boathouse. The Headland Trail follows the north side of the Port Orford Headlands. This trail features an expansive view of Cape Blanco and perfect shots of offshore rocks. #oregoncoast #oregonhikes #hikingwithkids

This is a gorgeous park/beach. There is a nice paved, good sized parking lot that is free. There are nice bathrooms by the parking lot. You can pull in and just enjoy the gorgeous view, or you can walk down to the beach. The walk down to the beach is family friendly for children, but would not be good for wheel chairs. There is a fun sea stack you can climb up, reachable from the beach most of the time. (Tide dependant) The beach is beautiful and there is also a grassy area up at the top, though it is wild grass and not a mown lawn. The parking area is right off the highway and easy to access. It would be a shame to not stop and at least enjoy the view from the parking lot.

Visited this park Wednesday 5/26/21. Unfortunately I did not get to explore too much as I locked my keys in my car. Looks like a great park with historical buildings and a boat. Picnic area around the buildings. Porta potties. Parking enough for 20+ vehicles with a handicap space. 4 hiking trails. Busy I saw multiple people coming and going the several hours I was there (trails are not wheelchair accessible). Great for young children. Caretaker lives on site.

Lived on the southern Oregon Coast for 20 years. Only found this place a coupla months ago. Quickly became my favorite hike anyWHERE, start on the Cove Trail to Nellie's lookout. One of the most beautiful views on the coast, turn around for the short walk or head onward for more spectacular sights. Do the whole ocean trail walk, lots of mini lookout spots with benches. Get your cameras ready and bring a water bottle if going all the way. Also, there is a small grassy picnic area and a museum ( hope that opens soon) at the main area. Story boards abound with histories of the area. The kids will love this place and the incredible history of this national treasure. Be sure to pack it out if ya pack it in. Be...

I was lucky enough to be able to have my Boy Scout meetings with my Troop 98 at the Coast Guard Station. I wish I had pictures of the inside of the building back in the 1980's. We Wrestled and through the football around on the lawn before meetings. I learned to tie knots in the building. We kept our camping gear in the basement. We would challenge new members to walk down the trail that leads down to the old boat house. It was always dark and spooky. I went on to become an Eagle Scout in 1987. So fond if this place. I went and took a tour of the museum a few years back. It is very cool. I highly recommend taking a couple if hours and take in the...
