Such an Amazing place. One of my most desired places to go. I would recommend anyone to come see this amazing place any time of the year. During the summer the garden is spectacular. In the winter it's just as peaceful and frankly just as nice when the flowers aren't in full bloom. Such a Great place to come and enjoy at anytime. It gives the history of the wonderful family that gave us this place for all to enjoy which is always nice to read about and appreciate. The light show during the holidays can be a bit crowded and busy yet so worth coming to see. The hospitality is very welcoming with cookies and hot cider offered usually anytime the old house in the garden is open. It's always fun to take a look at while your at it which is welcomed with open arms. Periodically through out the year there are nice events to attend which often can be enjoyed in/under the beautiful gazebo also right inside the garden. The grounds are well taken care of with clean restrooms and running water which includes spickets outside which always come in handy. There is even a nice place to get a souvenir or a snack while roaming thru an awesome building filled with lots of interesting and fun historical stuff and much much more. Theres a fairly easy yet spectacular trail that follows along the oceans edge with mind blowing plants, rocks, turf and sea life. If you happen to catch the tide just right the incredible show you will see by the ocean from waves crashing against the cliffs/rocks is unbelievable. There's even a short trail that can be accessed from the main parking area that leads to a beach where you can put your feet in the water, safely get up close to the oceans wrath or lay back for a nice picnic/tan on a sunny day. It's not to far off the beaten path so definitely don't be mistaken that it's definitely somewhere you want to go to or stop to see at least once because it's likely you will love it and want to come back time and time again. It's a surprising little paradise if you ask me tucked away in the most unlikely of areas. Believe me when I say this is just touching on what i believe there is...
Read moreShore Acres State Park is one of the more unusual and beautiful state parks along the west coast of the United States. More than 100 years ago it was the site of a fabulous mansion, built by a lumber baron. That house, built for his young wife, sadly burned down after only a few years. They rebuilt, but never recaptured the former glory. With the stock market crash in 1929, money became very tight, the beautiful home that had been built in its place fell into disrepair, and was eventually demolished. On the site of the former mansion, there now sits a small observation and interpretive center, which allows people to look out at the amazing, rocky shoreline, and the waves crashing below. There you have a spectacular display of plate tectonics at work: huge slabs of ocean floor, thrust up at a 45° angle, with waves crashing down upon them that create an almost fireworks-like display of foamy plumes of water, shooting up to 50 feet into the air. At the right moment, when the tide is coming in and the water high enough, these displays can be quite spectacular. In addition to this visual delight, the gardens that the original lumber baron had built for his wife back in the 1920s, have been largely restored, courtesy of the state of Oregon. There are many flowering plants, a small rose garden, a lovely Japanese Garden, and another of other plants and visually delightful settings for a very pleasant afternoon stroll. In addition, there are other viewpoints within the ground themselves, of a...
Read moreThis place.... this place! I am SO glad that we finally discovered this hidden gem. We’ve lived in Oregon now for a few years and have explored nearly ALL of the coast but somehow we missed this gorgeous section.
I’m so thrilled that we spent several days exploring this coastline - trust me you’ll love it. My favorite part easily was the Shores Acres Park. To imagine that this once was all a part of someone’s estate 🤩 is dreamy and hard to believe! An immaculate garden and a private beach?! Wow. Yes please.
Thankfully the Simpson family donated their home, gardens and land to the state so we all can enjoy. Thank you! You’ll love exploring this area and I highly suggest taking the hike down to the beautiful cove beach (just a short hike down from the garden).
We came early March and were lucky to watch one of the most impressive wave 🌊 crashing show I’ve ever seen. Amazing geological rock formations, beautiful soft sands and lovely Oregonian views.
Be sure to bring a chair to sit on or a blanket and a lunch. Stay awhile!...
