My experience began by giving Technician Cody Grabel the benefit of the doubt when he first arrive at my door steps and introduced himself. He was on time within the prescribed schedule time frame. He presented himself with a good personality. Verbally, He sound like a professional Technician who knew what he was talking about.
Cody was supposed to conduct a full and complete diagnostic as part of my requested Service call.
First it was prompted with his IPad in hand as to blue printing me with questioning. For example; âif I knew if the Warranty was expireâ, âhow old was the AC systemâ, âhow long you plan to live in this homeâ, etc. The direction of the questioning was as it was heading more towards a salespersons pitch. At the time, I did not put much thought into it because I was more interested in him knowing how our AC system was performing. Now I feel that I fed him with too much information on the performance of my AC than what he actually diagnosed.
Cody went up to the attic as I followed him. He took a look a the wiring with his head lamp and checked the readings on some wires while following his check list on his iPad or tablet. I mentioned to him the MFG date as he determined that our AC Unit system was 13 years old. He showed me an Aluminum looking radiator that was clean and did not need to be sprayed cleaned. He expressed that our AC system was a prime candidate for a new one.
The Capacitor terminals HERM, (C) for Comen, and fan were not tested for the micro fares continuity on the capacitor with the Multimeter. The three wire contacts, Purple, and two orange for the terminals on the capacitor were not tested with the Multimeter. Those same wires are connected to the compressor through a wire harness which was not tested with the multimeter. The contacter was not tested with the leads. The terminals from the compressor were not tested with the Multimeter. The whining on the compressor was not checked by taking the lead to get a reading from Comen to Run, Comen to Start, and between Run to Start.
The compressor was not hot, so the was not shut down. He used his gauges to check the Free-On level and told us it was good. Cody was checking a copper line, when suddenly his hand was sprayed with a clear fluid that looked like water. This happened two times. He said that this was not supposed to do this so he conducted a test with a yellow looking tube like of some kind of cotton material that was supposed to collect oil from the copper lines from the the compressor but when it did not occurred in two instances, Cody looked surprised himself.
My wife noticed his facial expression which she found it pretty strange for his reaction. Immediately after this happened he told us that the compressor was bad anyway. He said to us that we were going to need a new entire AC System and he can help us get one through...
Read moreI called Airheads in the summer when my AC wasn't working. I had just replaced my thermostat but the tech that came out said it wasn't the right one for my unit. He showed me two that they sell and although I told him the cheaper of the two would be fine he still installed and charged me for the more expensive one. But, it was my fault for not checking prior to paying. He also sold me their "comfort care" package that discounts my price and gives me a free follow up in 6 months to ensure everything was working properly. Again, my mistake for falling for it.
I had to call them back out within a week and the second tech said the first didn't flush the system among other things, guess he was too busy selling me things I didn't need instead of fixing the actual issue. Luckily, after paying 1k the first visit, I didn't have to pay for them to finally fix the problem the second visit.
Flash forward to the winter when I received a text to schedule my follow up check. It was right before we were going to have some pretty cold temps so I figured why not make sure we don't lose heat or have any issues. Man was that the wrong answer..
They came out and all of a sudden I needed to replace the TXV and it was going to cost me about 2k since the refrigerate leaked outside the condenser and he would have to change the filter dryer as well (I took notes). He said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get the parts from the manufacturer and I wouldn't have heat until it was complete.
I was very confused since I had no issues prior to the visit and even felt heat once he left. So, I called another HVAC company for a second opinion. The new tech showed up and checked everything out. He returned to me and asked "So, what issues are you having? Because I'm not seeing anything wrong". I went through everything that the Airheads tech said was wrong, he checked every one and explained why each thing did not need replaced. He hooked up all of the pressure and heat gauges and nothing was low or losing heat/pressure. I am so thankful that I paid $100 for a second opinion prior to mindlessly paying Airheads 2k to fix things that were not broken. Makes me think that's exactly what happened the first time as well. But, you know what they say.. fool me once..
Anyway, if you decide to try Airheads, do yourself a favor and get a second opinion.
Edit Steven from Airheads reached out to me to discuss the issues I had with my services. He was very kind and genuine and addressed all of my concerns. Although I did not have a great experience and will continue to get second opinions for peace of mind. I am glad to have spoke with Steven and clear a couple of things up. So, I added 2 stars for the customer service on...
Read moreMy A/C died in August 2024 during a hot Texas summer. I was given a window of time between 10am-12noon followed by a text with the name and a brief profile of the technician who would be servicing my HVAC unit. I received a call from Kevin around 1030 am to let me know that he was on his way. Kevin was polite and listened to my description of the history of my HVAC unit and addressed all concerns I had. My Rheem heat pump HVAC unit is six years old and has been serviced twice a year since its installation. The filter used is 2 inches thick and is ultra filtering for pet dander. It is changed every three months. The gist of the HVAC problem was a leaking refrigerant coil line. Kevin did thorough troubleshooting tests to ensure there were no other problems in the system. He also fixed a very loud gurgling noise problem my HVAC unit had with its drain pump. Even though I mentioned it all the time to the previous company who installed the HVAC and who serviced it just three months ago for its Spring tune-up, nobody EVER resolved the problem. I was told "yeah, those pumps can make some noise and nothing could be done about it". Kevin fixed the problem! It was an air intake attachment that was needed. It was clearly marked as being needed on the exchange system located inside the closet. The installers back in 2018 missed that as well as that same company's service technicians over the past five years. Needless to say, once the old company fufills their contract with one last semi-annual inspection this fall, Airheads HVAC will be my go-to company. Kevin is a field supervisor and trains new employees. They are in good hands with his knowledge, expertise, and leadership.
April 11, 2025 - Kevin back for routine Spring checkup for my two units. The house has a Rheem heat pump HVAC unit and a Daikin mini split unit in the garage. I purchased the comfort club plan that covers a Spring and Fall service. My HVAC had a "dirty sock" smell and Kevin sprayed the coils with a disinfectant to kill the bacteria that grew during the heating season. i never smelled it during the winter. Once i switched to cooling a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the smell. Everything is nice and fresh smelling now. Kevin did a thorough job cleaning, inspecting, and testing my two units. Although i'm not ready for another Texas summer, my two units are. I highly recommend...
