Great park. Horrible mannered host.

I love this park, I love to take my kids there to fish, my dog loves to sit on the dock and watch the bobber, or even play monkey in the middle as my kids and I throw the ball back and forth to each other. But last evening something happened I just can't shake. I was taking one of my kids up to use the bathroom. I had my dog on the leash. I noticed across the road there was a man with a pit bull and a small dog playing fetch orsomething in the field. I seen this mans small dog come running across the road at us and my dog, whom is on a leash at the time. Hes pit was also, just not his small dog. At first I was a little concerned Just at the speed of how fast the little dog was approaching us. I didn't know what to expect from the small dog, so I had my dog patiently sit and wait for the older gentleman to get his (3 lbs) dog, but after it approached, I knew it just kind of wanted to smell us. It was jumping around us like a bunny and being playfully but curious.

Within in 20 seconds a huge truck approached and braked so quick 4 ft from us in the grass and a man jumped out screaming to the other guy "get ur dog, get ur dog!!!" and then my dog got a little tense. I quickly realized the CAMP HOST was yelling at this man to get his pit bull who WAS LEASHED, not the small dog that was actually at my feet at the time. (The reason for the whole situation) By now the owner of the dog was was 15 ft from us with his dog and the host is screaming about training and all other things. The dogs owner asked the pitbull to sit and lay down and which this pitbull did in fact listen..GOOD DOG!! By this time the lady is kind of standing off with my kids and she is talk to them to keep their attention in a different direction a bit (which thank you) but really dog (which is protective of me when NEEDED) is not doing well with THE CAMP HOST screaming at this older man and the older man's getting defensive also so I hand the leash to my oldest, pick the small dog up, hand the sweet pup to the owner, THEN I APOLOGIZE FOR THE CAMP HOSTS RADICAL BEHAVIOR and pat the man's back.

The lady asks me which way I would like us to be escorted around the indecent and she takes us that way.

I understand there is leash laws. I do, but I know my dog. I was handling the situation perfectly b4 the man got out of that truck screaming. If I felt that my dog would have really hurt that small dog I would have yelled for the dogs owner to "get his dog" myself. But no! I had my dog politely sit between my feet and wait for his owner to come for him

Yes, my dog was little curious, that was probably the smallest dog she had ever seen, but she was really fine UNTILL the aggression of the park host arrived.

I know he works or formerly worked for Mast Bros Towing and in that line of work you have to have some type of attitude with people, but working with people, children and animals in the community, you should really try to learn how to be a bit softer.

Especially around children...

Stopped here on our way to Bandon. Noticed bathrooms, river, a baseball dimond, some kind of large built kids play thing, looked like some camping spots to the back end of the park, a boat dock, a veteran memorial, and a huge rock memorial to a guy named Buzz Holmstrom. From just walking around, it looks like the place needs some work. Bathrooms definitely need to be repainted and repaired. Tolets didn't flush correctly. Both memorials need some loving care and cleaning. Buzz memorial was really hard to read. I didn't walk back to the camping spots, so I'm not sure how well they were set up? Boat ramp looked in good condition. If this park is supposed to be kept up by the city if Coquille, they need to get busy, nice park that has been let run down. PS: had to laugh that they still have an old pay phone connected to the bathrooms. Can't use it of course, but shows just how out dated...

We were struggling to find tent camping and it was getting late. Thankfully, we found this park. $10 a night pay at the camp host or via envelope. No real designated "spots" but lots of picnic tables, fire rings, and trees to set up by. Camping doesn't seem to fill up. They have one building with flush toilets and lots of port a potties spread out thru the park. Also a dumpster for your garbage. You could hear traffic from the road and there wasn't showers so I didn't rank it a 5. But for $10 it was a great spot to camp. If you fish it had a fish cleaning station and a place to back...

This park is so fun. It's like a little hidden toddler paradise. Definitely bring rain boots and expect your kiddos to get a little dirty though. There is a decent amount of parking, a super fun (but also a bit creepy looking) wooden play structure/slide and a few nice picnic areas. Restrooms, overnight camping ($10), a boat ramp and fishing.

Beautiful park. The grounds are always kept very clean & grass is always mowed. The camp host, Rick, has been there for about 7 yrs. He was always courteous & helpful. Super nice guy. 2 days ago was his last day. I think he retired. Rick, you'll be missed. Thank you Rick for always being helpful & a super cool guy 🙂
