I really loved the tranquility of this place. We did end up going on a perfect day thou, it was raining and thundering. On mother's day we were getting ready to check out from our hotel in smith river, when we got a call from my aunt. She asked us where we were and I told her we are exploring Klamath. Her first question was if we toured through the tree, and I was like no. She sounded way more excited than I was at that hour if the day. So when I googled and found this place was so super close to us, I decided it definitely was gonna be my 1st stop. As we drive on the empty road in hail and heavy rain, wipers going up and down, thanks to the big sign which said tour thru trees exit here, I was able to know where exactly iam going. An empty check in cabin stood in front of us with a sign that deposit $5 in the slot as the person has gone somewhere for some errands. We started making our way up the park on a narrow road. The moment I was surrounded by so much greenery, I was lost in the beauty of my surroundings. This is usually the place I YouTube when I want to put peaceful music in my living room. And here I was watching this place in real life. We entered the parking lot where a big tree stood right before us. No one in sight probably because of the weather which made us very lucky. I do have a jeep compass so it was a very tight fit to pass thru the tree but I did make it. I just stood there admiring that place before we hit the road . It's truly a gem. Now my pictures may not look like it was taken in rain but it was taken in rain, not even drizzle. I can't believe that one part of California is so serene. Coming from sf bay area all we see is the dry dry and dry. I close my eyes and I still picture this place. If it was not for the pictures I'd definitely think it was a dream. Anyway I hope you all like my story coz it truly came from my heart. Pliz do visit them....
Read moreWe were in the area to visit the Redwoods of Northern California. A friend told us to go check it out. I love these types of road aside attractions so he made a quick pit stop to check it out. As you near the area you will see a sign up high indicating it was just up ahead. There is a tiny entrance booth, which was unattended but had a drop box at booth. I assume they operate on an honor system most times. We glady dropped a fiver into the drop box and then proceed forward up a short incline to where we spotted the three. There was a short roundabout where the tree is, with plenty of parking as the area was not too busy. Another car was making a few passes thru the tree. I assume many people spend maybe 10 minutes or so. We waited for to finish so that we could spend our time there in private. It's just as we expected. We spent maybe ten minutes there. As we were preparing to leave another car was pulling up so we left so that they could could enjoy it in private. Nothing else to do there, but because we were already in the area, the $5 we spent was well worth having...
Read moreFor a reason unknown to me, my husband has always wanted to drive through a redwood (we all have our own bucket list, folks). We were there early- 8:30am- and no one was manning the gate but there's a honor system box to leave your $5 and we did, mostly because the sign says, "We trust you!" and I didn't want to ruin it for everyone. We had a rental Chevy Traverse and if we would have had anything larger, we wouldn't have made it through the tree. There's a steep uphill and sharp turn approaching the tree that you are warned about. Don't do this in a dually pickup or RV!
Yes, it's a tourist trap but they don't rip you off. There was no one around when we were there so we had lots of time to take pictures and walk inside the tree (pretty neat). It's a drive through tree, friends. That's it. If you're expecting balloons and fireworks and a giant gift shop and public bathrooms, go down the street to the real tourist trap,...
