This was an...interesting (yet fun!)...family experience! While visiting the Oregon coast and redwood forest, we decided to try and find a zipline course to add a layer of excitement to our forest exploration. After Googling a couple options, we elected to go to the Treehouse - mostly because my kids loved the idea of adding the Tarzan swing onto the zipline course! I have to say, we had a great time after overcoming a few misgivings when we first showed up.

First, the Treehouse Ziplines is in the town of Takilma. For those who don't know the area (like we didn't), Takilma was a town founded by hippies a number of years ago. The road to the Treehouse wanders through some areas that just seemed...different. It started to feel like we were in the movie "Nothing But Trouble". The business lacked any professional sign, and instead, there were a couple hand painted road signs pointing the way through a neighborhood dirt road. Upon arrival, a sign indicated that zipline customers and staff were to park in the dirt lot by the horse corral. Again, weird. As I looked for the business, I found myself wandering through...treehouses...with people milling about like they lived there. After wandering around, I found the zipline building at the back of the campus, and somewhat nervously asked how to check in.

At this point, I didn't know what I'd gotten my family into - was this place even a legitimate business, licensed, and insured? Or was it a hippie commune that I'd stumbled into?? After a few questions (and some after-the-fact research), I discovered that the Treehouse Ziplines is part of the Out n' About Treehouse Resort - a small resort of treehouses people can stay at, with ziplining being one of the activities people can participate in. Apparently, this would have been more obvious to me if I fully explored their website, but as it was, Google landed me on their ziplining page, and I didn't know it was part of a larger resort offering.

I have to say that the staff were very friendly and professional. They took safety seriously, and I quickly gained confidence in their abilities and attention to detail. We did the Big Zip Adventure, which is a series of 7 increasingly challenging zips, starting with a short practice zip just a few feet off the ground, to a zip that starts 75' up a tree! (There is something a little nerve wracking being that high up, on a small platform, and feeling the tree sway - it doesn't matter if you are double attached to a secure cable - you'll find yourself feeling like hugging the tree for dear life!).

Each group gets two guides, and again, safety is their primary concern, and making sure you have fun is their next. Our guides had a couple good jokes to tell at each platform (some pretty darn funny, others more like groan worthy dad jokes...!). There's also a little bit of walking/hiking to get around, not a lot by any means, but the guides were very cognizant of the group's walking ability and took a pause a couple times to make sure nobody had to overly catch their breath.

The 7 ziplines felt like the right amount of zips for the activity, but you can extend and add more if you'd like. At the end, we headed to the Tarzan Swing - and for thrill seekers, it is a MUST! They use a golf cart and pully system to pull you up 55 ft on your harnessed swing - but you have to hang on to the handle on the way up (think about dangling from a pull-up bar as the bar is being pulled 55 ft into the air!). On their queue, you simply let go and plummet to your death...er, I mean...plummet through one of the most terrifying rides you'll get to experience! Both my 19 and 14 year old teenagers shrieked on the way down - and about nothing can make my teenagers shriek these days! From a dad's perspective, well worth the $20 adder!

In the end, I'd highly recommend the experience - just know what to expect going into it, and you won't face the same "what the...?!"...

As another reviewer stated, "Worst Customer Service Ever". These people were rude, customer service was non-existant. What a disappointment. We drove nearly 200 miles to come here and left / were asked to leave afer about 10 minutes of being there. They charged us $10.00 per person just to enter the property. I asked the lady taking my money what the $10.00 was for, she simply said I don't know, it's just what we do. I pressed further, the $10.00 does not go towards using the zip line? She answered no. Once we were on the property, all of the tree houses clearly stated, "For registered Guests Only". Then we got to the zip line area and it was obvious not only do they not have nearly the facility advertised on their web site, (we saw only one zip line), but the zip line was not running that day. I realized that we had just paid $10.00 per person to do absolutely nothing. We then went back to the entrance where they collected our money and told them that I felt very dissappointed. I felt like they had duped me. One of the staff actually called me rude and asked us to leave. Amazing, they have no idea what customer service is. If you want a zip line adventure, please go...

Book now! It's TOTALLY WORTH IT! As a family we've done ziplines a number of different places and the Treehouse Ziplines rank high as one of our favorite experiences. My family did the Outback Adventure a few days ago, we added on the Treeversal ExTree. We were paired up with another family, some of them had zipline experience and some of them were new to it. Matt and Taylor were encouraging to the daredevils and reassuring to the more timid members. They did a great job explaining things while keeping everyone engaged. It's an absolutely beautiful course. The highlight for me was Logan's Way, so fast, so fun!

Even if You are not a guest at the Treesort. You should seriously consider...
