One day in Chaco Culture National Historical Park Save to plan your adventure. Home to over a dozen Chacoan Sites, ancient rock art, some short slots, and dark night skies. Find every level of adventure from all accessible to high adventure. Come explore this UNESCO Heritage site that makes me think of a Machu Picchu scale but in the desert. Explore around and inside some of the ruins, squeeze through slots, enjoy scenic overlooks. High Adventure (Free backcountry permits available at trailheads): 🥾Pueblo Alto Trail 5.4 miles RT with 521 ft EG (reel) Scramble up the boulder strewn cliff face through a short slot for bird’s eye views of the Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, and Kin Klesto great houses. Loop atop the mesa to Explore Pueblo and New Alto Ruins, Chacoan stairways and roads before descending a second short slot and looping back to the trailhead. Or 🥾Penasco Balnco Trail 7.4 miles RT with 386 ft EG. Find numerous pertroglyphs and pictograph in eluding one of a supernova and explore an unexcavated great house. Moderate: 🥾Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, and Petroglyph trail 1.5 mile RT 🥾Kin Klestro Trail .7 miles RT explore ruins at Kin Klestro and Pueblo del Arroyo Accessible: 🛻Drive the 9 mile scenic Loop Stooping at all 5 major Chacoan Great Houses sites. Get out to explore each site as time and energy allows. Walks to sites vary from .1 to 1 miles RT on mostly level hard packed dirt. No stairs unless you enter the sites. Looking for more: 🌠Enjoy the Dark sky at the Chaco Observatory located by the visitors center. 🚵 Bike the WiIjiji, Casa Chiquita or Kin Klizhin trails ⛺️Camp at the Gallo Campground $20 per night. Reserve at Recreation.gov or first come first served after 11 am. Fees: $25 per car or national parks pass. Best seasons to visit are spring and fall. ⚠️Remember to leave no trace exploring all areas of the park. #allabilities #hikingadventures #findyourpark #nationalpark #ancientruins #slotcanyon #visitnewmexico #unescoworldheritagesite #outdooradventures #explorehiketeach #fourcorners #hiketoexplore #places_wow #discovernewmexico
