This review is specifically for the archery range at Stevens Creek County Park.
I've been to a handful of archery ranges throughout California and this one is the best by far. I'm actually hesitant to write a review lest word gets out and the masses descend on it. Bowhunters United is the archery club that maintains the range and they do such an awesome job that I've been compelled to donate (there's a donation link on their website, just Google their name).
The range nestled in a quiet hilly area of the park so you feel like you're in your own little natural archery sanctuary. Right near the parking lot area is the main shooting range, with dozens of hay bales at various distances. There's also one of the nicest port-o-potties there I've ever used.
My favorite part of the range is the hiking trail and 35+ target stations located throughout. It's immense! Shooting a quiver at each station with a buddy could take a couple of hours. The trail itself is beautifully kept, with bridges, stair cut-outs, and paths winding up and down the hill. Bowhunters United leaves free bottles of water at water stations throughout the trail.
On its best days, the range and trail is beautiful and verdant, with all sorts of wildlife wandering about. It's like Disneyland for archers, except it's free to the public....
Read moreFor a pretty quick get-a-way from valley crowds, this park offers many trails. although there is the reservoir, it's not the best part of the park. You can rent kayaks and go to the incoming creek for exploration. There's also a nice picnic area past Montebello Road, opposite the Dam. A little further post that is a trail head for Pecchetti open space. Diverse foliage awaits with a winery and small old farm that's great for a family lunch. Past that trail head (which was on the left of Steven's Canyon Road) is another trail head for the Lookout Trail. This has a nice steady climb for about 40 min. Nice views of the valley and then it empties down to Fremont Older Open Space, which you can hike all the way to Saratoga Country Club. Taking Steven's Canyyon Road further, you come to the junction of Mt Eden road.Along the way you passed two very nice picnic areas with clean restrooms on the left, Sycamore and Madrone. Up Mount Eden there's a Archery Range on the left. If you continued on Steven's Canyon you could take a left at Redwood Gulch for a windy road through some redwoods ending up on Highway 9. Great shortcut to the Skyline/9...
Read moreEasy access to 85 and 280. Lots of trails and now that we have some water the streams are flowing. Lots of poison oak along the trails and some of the narrower semi overgrown trails be cautious because it could be easy to accidentally touch some. So look what it looks like if you don’t know. Dogs are allowed on leash. You have to pay for parking in the lots. I’ve run into coyotes many times out there, so be aware especially if you have a small dog. My dog is medium size and she is savvy, so she’s been aware of them many times before I could even see a single one. Typically if you see one there are at least a few more out of site. I have seen a mountain lion once, so even though you’re not far from the city you’re still walking through their home. That being said I’m not aware of any attacks in this area, it again be aware. I almost never go on solo hikes or mountain bike rides in the hills out here, the chances of an issue when your with a group...
