We visited on a late Saturday afternoon in mid-April 2025.
There were many cars in the parking lot when we arrived but there were still a couple of spots.
There are 2 pit toilets next to the parking lot. There are also some info boards as you start on the trail about the wildlife here.
it's a very short walk North to get to the boardwalk and beaver marsh. We spotted what we thought was a beaver den. There were many birds out when we visited.
It was very nice and beautiful short hike. We passed by old canal gate and saw lots of wildlife. There were a lot of people on the boardwalk and while I wouldn't say it was crowded, it certainly was busy.
None of the leaves were out on the trees yet so you could see much more than normal it felt like. But there was also very little shade. Lucky for us it was also like 50s outside so it was actually a little chilly.

Read moreQuick and easy access to the towpath trail. This is a trailhead, i.e. more of a parking lot than a park. This is also the closest parking for the Beaver Marsh, which can be accessed on the towpath trail. Parking here can fill up, but the majority of the time you can find a spot. There are two or three picnic tables available, but they are in close proximity to the public restrooms. That said, this is a popular trailhead for this reason, it offers quick and easy access to a flat section of the towpath trail and the Beaver Marsh with lots of wildlife.

Read moreWildlife abounds on this accessible trail. We stayed for around an hour and saw beaver, several large turtles, songbirds, and a heron. There are several areas to sit and rest along the way. Also, there is a quest to complete as part of the National Forest's questing program (similar to geocaching). Note the Google Maps directions to the parking lot are incorrect by about 500 feet in directing you where to turn into the parking lot. This section of trail is connected to the towpath trail and accessible by bike or foot from the Boston Store...
