I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cedar Ridge Preserve, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. This hidden gem nestled in the heart of nature is a true oasis of tranquility. From the moment I stepped onto the well-maintained hiking trails, I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience.
One of the first things that struck me was the impeccable maintenance of the trails. The park authorities have done an exceptional job of keeping the paths clear and well-marked, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable hiking experience. It was evident that they prioritize visitor safety and comfort, making the trails accessible to hikers of all skill levels.
But what truly stole my heart at Cedar Ridge Preserve were the wildflowers. The park is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, as it boasts an incredible variety of vibrant and colorful wildflowers. Every turn along the trails offered a new visual feast, with blooming flowers in all shapes, sizes, and hues. It was like walking through a painting, and I found myself constantly reaching for my camera to capture the sheer beauty of the landscape.
In addition to the breathtaking wildflowers, the preserve also offers stunning panoramic views. As I hiked along the ridge, I was treated to sweeping vistas of rolling hills, dense forests, and even glimpses of distant city skylines. The combination of natural beauty and tranquility created a sense of serenity that is hard to find in our busy, modern lives.
The staff and volunteers at Cedar Ridge Preserve deserve a special mention. Their dedication to preserving and maintaining this natural haven is evident in every aspect of the park. They were always available to provide guidance and answer any questions, enriching my visit with their knowledge and passion for the preserve.
Whether you are a seasoned hiker or simply seeking a peaceful retreat from the chaos of everyday life, Cedar Ridge Preserve is an absolute must-visit. It offers a well-maintained network of trails, abundant wildflowers, and breathtaking views that will leave you rejuvenated and inspired. I cannot recommend this place enough, and I am already planning my next visit to explore more of its hidden treasures.

Read moreGoing to this preserve is probably the closest you can get to an outdoors adventure in DFW. They have 13 different trails you can hike in, each with different lengths and degrees of difficulty. The longest one is cedar break trail with 1.9 miles, which is not that bad but you will be hiking in different elevations, so expect to climb long stretches of stairs up and down. I'd recommend this one and fossil valley trail if you are in good shape because they are intense! Also bring plenty of water; I saw a single water fountain by the entrance near the bathrooms, so if you get heatstroke in the middle of a hike you will be happy to have your own. Wear hiking shoes if possible because the ground is irregular: sometimes you're crossing a wood bridge, then you're going through a muddy path, or stepping on a stone path that literally looks like it's been there since the beginning of the world (so, uneven and slippery!). Sometimes the paths are narrow, and there's heavy traffic but nothing so bad as to feel crowded. You can find many charming views - if you make it to the top of the hill on the fossil valley trail, there's a lovely scenic vista of the surroundings and faraway city. There's also plenty of wildlife on the trails, particularly butterflies, mosquitoes, and all kinds of flying insects. Stray at your own risk because this preserve hosts all the Texas poisonous snakes. There are plenty of colorful wildflowers, and different kinds of vegetation as you move through the woods. Dogs are welcome but they must be leashed at all times. The cattail pond is small but very pretty, surrounded with tall grasses that make a peaceful sound with the wind. There's a little spot with benches where you can rest while overlooking the pond. In sum, this preserve has much to offer to those looking for an escape...
Read moreEvery time, I go, it’s always a new experience in the best way possible! I enjoy the nature and peace. You can donate to the preserve at the front. The staff is always maintaining it. I do recommend that a lot of the stumps that people trip on can be dug up and cleaned off of the track that most people walk or run through I see a lot of people tripping and could really twist their ankle I have tripped before and it’s not a good feeling, could also be partly because I’m clumsy, but I think that would help. I like that some of the trails are short and some long then you have options to go back to the car or parking area if you get too tired. There’s also an option to go on the side of the neighborhood. The other people on the trail keep to themselves are pretty respectful of other people. I also enjoy the butterfly garden, it’s so pretty and you could see the butterflies if you sit down on the swing bench. I was able to sit down and cool down before walking to the car. I could really spend half a day there with nature. Some of the days it can get pretty hot, but the trees do get some pretty good shade. I’m this trails near my home and I can go to it often. The earlier you go the better chances you’re gonna have it getting a parking spot closer. It does fill up pretty fast and even if you get there around 7:45 to 9 you’ll have to wait in line. I try to park at the park down the street or nearby neighborhood so I don’t have to have much of a walk to the trail. Still worth it to be out there in nature and enjoy my time while hiking. Having a hiking stick...
