I love this place. My interaction with the staff and librarians has been limited, but I've always found them to be friendly, helpful, and excited about their job. There is not a huge selection of books on site, but, anything you can find in the Dallas Public Library catalogue online can be ordered and delivered to this location. I would suggest that if you want to use the library for research you make the orders you want ahead of time then look them over at the location before checking them out. I've checked out some obscure material that way.
The renovations were well done. The building has a calming effect every time I go in. It's not a huge library, but the space is so open that it never feels claustrophobic. The layout has a lot of unique angles so it is also possible to find more intimate corners; however, nothing is so remote that someone could get away with being sketchy. There are a couple of a small conference rooms, but I wouldn't recommend trying to conference with more than three people in them. They are ideal for one on one meetings. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Those renovations were tasteful and utilitarian.
A major asset for this location that I think is under utilized is the black box theatre which can be reserved free of charge as long as the event is free and open...
Read moreI used to love coming here with my toddler. It was such a warm and welcoming space that gave him the freedom to play and meet other toddlers. However, they recently moved the entire play area to an open space where sound can linger. Today my toddler and I were visiting along with other parents and our children. Every child was well behaved, but as can be expected they are KIDS!!!! Noise can go be elevated, but the children were in their designated area, and monitored by multiple women. The audacity of this librarian to come not once by FIVE times to rudely discipline the mothers and the children was not very inclusive. I did not appreciate her behavior at all and another mom that was there stated how that specific librarian hates children. NOT GOOD Fretz park library. Do better! I will return with my child I will not let this librarian scare us away. I hope this issue gets addressed so other parents and myself can feel safe to bring our...
Read moreThis is my 2nd review of this library because they've improved HUGELY! Previously I was upset about 2 main things: high noise level and witnessing staff being rude to several different people on multiple occasions. This branch has completely turned around for the better!
They're polite and helpful now. They are patient and understanding even when the person they're talking to is being ridiculous. They've created signs at the tops of the computers to assist with finding your reserved computer easily.
The noise level has really gone down too. I went on an early voting AND story time day most recently and it was STILL less loud than before.
They probably deserve 5 stars in Dallas, because so far I'm not largely impressed by any of DPL's branch resources, but compared to San Antonio's they...
