*I go here for the mountain bike trails, so this review is solely of those, not the remainder of the park.
This is a nice small area with a few trails that are all pretty well marked. The trails have improved quite a bit from when I was last here, and the trail had has a bike stand with bike tools for quick repairs & adjustments. Many new wooden features, and escape routes for some that weren't there before. Most of the trails are in shade from tree cover, but the backside does have some sun exposed areas... just ride faster through those. Blue has the most variation in my opinion, but all are fun. Red can get you into doing laps. Some tight trees in spots (750mm bars), a few loose dirt corners and it's not just a simple cruise. In Texas heat, not even a few laps & you'll be dripping sweat. I really like the brick & stone pavers that were added in places where it used to get nasty muddy. Some of the vegetation needs to be cut back... there are several face slappers on the trail...so keep your eyes open,...
Read moreOne of the best hidden gems in Far North Dallas. I absolutely love the jogging trail that leads to a massive trail system running along the cliffs of White Rock Creek. Most people have no idea its even there.
There's a playground, plenty of open green space, park benches and good landscaping and maintenance. Clientele is mainly working and middle class families and children, with a few young adults doing morning and evening exercise on the trail.
The extensive trail system is perfect for biking, jogging, exploring and hiking. Plenty of shade throughout the trail system, but be cautious in the evening as it can be easy to find yourself lost once the sun starts going down. No restroom facilities or water fountains so be prepared.
The neighborhood is fairly safe and secure, no beggars or shady individuals hanging around the park area. Most of the visitors are locals living in the apartments or gated single family homes next door. Highly...
Read moreI live about 6 minutes away from Katie Jackson and have ridden the off-road bike trail countless times. I frequent some of the more technical trails in north Texas and KJ is definitely not that. While it is certainly tame by Northshore standards, it does provide me a neighborhood trail for when I don't want to drive 35 minutes to grapevine. There are a number of different loops with Blue and Red providing mostly flat twisty riding in the trees. A number of wooden trail features keep it lively. Black and yellow jump up in difficulty, but not by much. You do have to take into consideration the intermittent interactions you'll have with unsavory characters (vagabond, after school stoner club, etc) on the trail or at jump lines.
I'd take a rider of beginner skill level here or would ride it if short on time. Wouldn't really recommend it if it isn't near you or if better...
