We parked here around 7 am and went hiking on Rocky View Ridge Trail. It was very steep during the initial 1 hour hike but fortunately the road was proper concrete. We met several grazing cows on the way and hardly any human around. As you reach the top of the elevation, there was only a 10-15 ft visibility with sudden temperature drops, fierce winds and dense fog. We literally walked through the clouds with condensation on our face, clothes and bag. It was a different experience in itself !! You'll need extra layers of clothing for that patch of land. Overall, very enjoyable and satisfying 3 hours. Definitely recommended to start early around 7 am or so. Better park here instead of waiting till 8 am for the main Las Trampas parking to open.

We started at 5:15am and got to the top to see the sunrise at 6:00am on time. Later in the year, the sunrise time will be later now.

The trail is open - I was there on Sunday 1/17/2021. We took the left leg of the trail and it’s quite a steep incline in the early part, but then becomes quite gentle thereafter. The views from the summit are stunning: Mt. Diablo, the Sacramento delta near Benecia, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco skyline (on a clear day), the Bay with San Mateo and Dunbarton bridges - and of course the green rolling hills! It gets quite windy at the top of the ridge, so dress appropriately. Going back today to look...

Excellent hike for those willing to grind out a few steep sections. Lovely along the way and the best view outside of Diablo in the east bay. It’s a terrible shame that the landowners on the other side by cull canyon road won’t allow public egress from the west side of the park. I really recommend this trailhead. No crowds,...
