I found out today that my 4th great-grandfather Nicholas Weekes provided millions of brick to build Fort Morgan. He owned and operated the Brick Yard. I will try to attach photos of the intricate brickwork completed by over 3000 slave labor workers. It was fascinating going through Fort Morgan after more than 20 years ago visiting this place. Knowing that my 4th Great-grandfather was the first owner of the Brick Yard and recalling my father talk about the Brick Yard in the 1950's gives me pause that my family long ago was a part of a piece of Baldwin County history. Shame on the Baldwin County planners of the 200 anniversary of Baldwin County for ignoring Nicholas Weekes and his contributions to Baldwin County. Nicholas Weekes' great grandson, Rudolph Weekes owned 3 schooners that hauled watermelons from Baldwin County to New Orleans. Two of the schooner's names were: The Riley W and The Emily W. Photos of these 2 schooners hung in their living room. The brick work at Fort Morgan's Battery DuPortail is very detailed. Bricks are everywhere comprising every room, nick, storage, or office area. Military personnel do not have to pay to tour Fort Morgan or the museum. Just show your military ID card. Sorry I did not get the prices. Also, you can board the ferry there and go across the bay. It lands somewhere south of Bellingrath Gardens. That would make a good dual excursion...Fort Morgan and...

This place was so cool and so much fun, my wife and I spent about 3 hours walking around taking it all in, it's just so incredible to see in person and get to have a feel of what it's like to be in the position to actually be someone there.

There's also this super super creepy tunnel that goes I don't know how far underground we got scared when it went so far it got completely pitch dark haha but it was super fun, and we saw a little crab check...

I am so disappointed in myself that I did not get a picture of the grave of the custodian outside of the battery. This is a lovely place with important history. I recommend getting here early so you can enjoy the early hour peace before the parking...

Amazing place to go!!! Days back to a Spanish gun battery in 1780 or so, this fort is rich with American history!! You really have to see this for yourself, make the trip to the end of the peninsula and you won't regret it.
