We have been to Family Farms a couple of times. Once on a school field trip to pick strawberries and another time we surprised our 7yo with an outing to the farm with just mom and dad. Both times the farm experience was great.
This review is for the Bonfire party. We attended the Bonfire party at the farm on a Saturday night the 2nd weekend in October. There was a good turnout- lots of families with young children running around and playing. There was loud Latin music playing which made it feel like a festival, vendors selling food, BBQ and everything you need to make s'mores at the bonfire. We tried to arrive before sunset to get some nice pictures of our kids in the pumpkin patch but we didn't make it. It was dark by the time we arrived. So, we decided to start our night with a hayride.
It was fun for the kids- a short, bumpy ride around the busy part of the farm. The tractor stops at the halfway mark of the route and each child gets to feed a corn on the cob to the cows. That was a sweet and funny moment as our kids normally don't get to interact with farm animals so they were scared and excited. You don't get off the tractor to feed the cows. The tractor then continues to the pickup/dropoff point and you're done. It appears that you can ride more than once as another family riding with us stayed on for another spin. We did notice that the tractor driver tried to accommodate everyone yet tried to give us some space between families- which we appreciated greatly.
We bought 2 sets of supplies for s'mores ($2each) which contained 1 stick, 1 giant marshmallow, 1 piece of chocolate and 2 Graham crackers. The supplies were fresh and made for a great s'more. We checked out the pumpkin patch, which by this time in the night the pumpkins were strewn all over the ground, but the kids got to check them out and we got some nice pix. There's a big tire and trees to climb, goats and other farm animals to feed and pet, pumpkin painting, pony rides- lots to keep a family entertained.
The only drawback to our experience was that not many people were wearing masks or socially distancing. There were no markings (that I saw) helping folks to keep a safe distance. We did the best we could to stay 6 feet apart from others but it was challenging.
Overall, it was a nice family fun night out after many months of...
Read moreFamily farms are a big part of our tradition. We’ve been visiting them for years, and honestly, this is the only one left around here that still feels humble, openhearted, and truly welcoming to the public. Sadly, a lot of local farms have either been shut down or turned into construction sites, and the few that are left—well, many just don’t treat people with the same kindness this one does.
This family farm is different. It’s built on real community values, and you can tell how much love and hard work has gone into it. The staff has clearly put in countless hours taking care of the animals and keeping the space fun, safe, and interactive. And let me tell you, it does take a tribe to care for animals—especially the way they do it here, with heart and consistency.
There’s so much to do here—from seeing and feeding the animals to seasonal events, farmers markets, birthday parties, and summer camps. This farm has become a staple in our lives. As a Davie resident for nearly 10 years, I’ve never had a negative experience here. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see some of the things being said online. It feels like there’s a lot of misunderstanding and not enough education around farming and agriculture.
We celebrate most of our holidays here—from October through January and during the summer—it’s our happy place. My son used to be afraid of animals, and now because of this farm, he adores them. He lights up every time we come. That kind of impact matters.
I’ve visited a lot of farms, and this one truly stands out. The prices are fair, and I love that they let kids actually engage with the animals. That connection with nature is so important for the next generation.
The family farm has even been renovated and improved recently. I can’t even imagine how much they’ve invested just to keep it running and available to the community. Fun fact I also found an elderberry tree growing where the animals I’ve seen them eat from the tree. It feels good to see animals that are not locked up in cages and running wild they’re running and walking freely as should
To the team behind the family farm—thank you. Thank you for everything you’ve built and everything you continue to do. You’re not just running a farm; you’re preserving a piece of...
Read moreThis was our first time at U Pick Family Farms and I can tell you it will not be our last. The main reason for our visit was to go strawberry picking; though the season is almost through, the farm did not disappoint! Each of my two kids left with a bucket-full of strawberries with little effort in finding. To my surprise you also have the option to pick tomatoes, peppers, kale, and other veggies right off the land!
This farm also offers hay rides for a nominal price and kids under 5 years old are free. A very knowledgeable and friendly associate takes you around the entire property where you can see all the crops, animals, and even have opportunity to feed the cows and take pictures. The entire ride is about 15 or so minutes, you learn about the property, and get to ask questions. It's totally worth it for the little ones.
At the main stand, you pay for your pickings by the pound prices, you can also choose from additional fresh, organic produce available for taking. You can also buy hot dogs, milkshakes, and other delicious treats that they grill right in front of you!! For now it is cash only but the owner assured me the electronic method of payment will be available soon!!
Finally, but not least there is a small pen with lamb and baby goats that you can feed from the fence. The animals are super cute and friendly and come to you for feeding and petting. The farm provides you with food for this for only $0.50!! There is also a little chicken coop full of healthy and beautiful looking chicks and roosters around the general area.
Overall, this U Pick farm has exceeded the expectations of my husband and myself because it was conveniently located, fairly priced, excellent service and products, well kept, and provided an amazingly beautiful and safe environment for my kids to experience nature and farm animal interactions. Thank you Penny, Robert, and Joseph for your kind and excellent service, we will...
