We went on the Mary Thatcher boat ride down the Connecticut river by way of the steam train ride that dropped us off on the landing. Very enjoyable train ride and boat ride. Very friendly staff. From the ticket both lady , the conductors to the swab boat mates. I've been taking my kids since the we're little. And my kids are in there twenty's and they still like to go back. Only one thing that bothered me was that you had to pay an extra twelve dollars per person to ride in the open cart. By ridding in this cart on a hot day you get more of a breeze as opposed to the closed in carts with just a small window to keep you cool. Oh and the open cart they have a waiter that comes around and takes orders for drinks ( beer, soda, or water ) for your ride. Reasonably priced. One more thing. If your going to buy a ticket to sit in the open cart be ready to get full of soot. This is something they don't mention when you purchase your tickets till after when your ready to board the open cart there are signs outside and inside the open cart. I came back home and had soot all in my hair and clothes. If you don't mind this then go for it. We went on the 4th of July and two people in the open cart was 74.00 dollars. I've all ways ridden in the closed carts witch I believe are cheaper. Never the...
Read moreMy wife and I had a beautiful time here as we sat on the circular deck overlooking the Connecticut River, taking in the breathtaking scenery with all the fall colors and watching the boats passing by and the birds diving into the water trying to catch fish. There is a great view of Gillete Castle off in the distance, albeit a small view. The bonus was seeing the Steam Train lumber along and slowly disappearing into the cover of trees as it slinked along the river's edge. (By the way, the Steam Train does make a stop at Deep River Landing.) If you are looking to experience the beauty of the CT River from the water then you are in luck because Deep River Landing also has a boat...
Read moreWe found this by accident while exploring the shore of the Connecticut River. The views were just gorgeous, even though it was raining lightly There was a light mist over the water that gave a mysterious aura of the entire River. It was such a peaceful feeling that we decided it was worth posting some pictures on this site. We appreciate the gazebo for the shade or protection from the drizzle and there is a small deck, right on the edge of the water. For those of you that have limited walking abilities, like me, the parking lot is situated close by, so everyone has access to the same structures. Simply,,,, a nice...
