I visited this place for the first time over the weekend. It really blew my mind. I couldn't believe all the amazing frogs and reptiles in the first room, and the butterfly room was beyond my expectations. I got to see my favorite butterfly, the blue morpho, in person for the first time. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Toward the end of my visit, I saw one of the button quail that appeared to be in distress. He wound up being fine (just laying weird) but the staff member appreciated me bringing it to their attention and it was promptly addressed.
I have some mild concerns about some of the enclosures for the reptiles. The vast majority are beautiful and above and beyond. However, the blue tongue skink was in a distressingly small tank with rodent bedding. I'm not sure if it was a temporary enclosure or what, but it wasn't big enough. Also, they cohabitate both crested and leopard geckos, which can be problematic. The geckos all appeared happy and healthy, and I assume they were all female, but cohabbing can lead to fighting and I'd hate one of the geckos to wind up injured! They had about four crested geckos together, and the enclosure was large, but that's a lot of geckos to put together. The leopard geckos were a pair in a very small tank. I found it strange that they had that, as the rest of the enclosures themselves were absolutely beautiful and appeared to be bioactive. Seeing the fringe leaf frog was an amazing surprise. They're so huge and beautiful! And the giant beetles were stunning. I really liked that the koi pond only had a couple fish in it. Many ponds like that are very overcrowded.
All the animals were in amazing shape and I loved the ambient music playing in the butterfly room. I didn't mind the admission fee as I know it's going to the care of these beautiful animals. Everyone there, both human and animal, seemed very happy and I will absolutely be returning...
Read moreI am really stunned by todays events. I have been to this place many times and I have held 2 partys here. I would like to start off with saying this place really is amazing! Well kept and friendly workers. If you are coming for the day I highly recommend this place. Its great for familys.
However. I have had 2 partys here and each time there were issues. The first party was last year in the end of april for my youngest daughter who turned 1. We had appoved food over the phone and it was not served at the party which I looked passed and we all had a good time, but she did point out I was wrong in front of all my party guests. Todays party costs us $475. Today my daughter turned 10 and we wanted the best. I told her I did not think 3 pizzas were enough for 33 people and it wasnt. I had to ask for an additional pizza and they were not very nice about it. They also did not fill pitchers often. But the absolute worst of the day was we were under the impression wewere aloud to stay for the remainder of the day as we did at the last party. Instead of tracking me down Allison ( I think her name was) went after my daughter The Birthday Girl, and told her "wheres your mother you need to get out now" it was obviously rude enough that a family member told her to back off and not talk to her that way. Look if we were wrong about the time we were aloud to be in there why go to the birthday girl why not go to us, we were not that far away. Then she proceeded to fight with members of our family. She also told me that last time I had a party we were not aloud to stay and I have 20 people that told her otherwise. I never believed the other reviews about this woman that were bad, but I do now. All in all, I was embarrassed twice infront of my family and friends and I no longer recommend this place for parties. I do find it is great for day visits and their food is good and non party staff...
Read moreSuch a beautiful place for all ages! The butterflies are located in what I would call an oversized green house and it's a few degrees warmer then the outside temperature. We went on a 90 degree day and it was hot and steamy in the butterfly exhibit. This didn't seem to bother my 2 year old but my baby in the baby carrier (no strollers allowed for obvious reasons) was very hot and slept through our time there. There is a small air conditioned part of the exhibit where there are other animals mainly frogs and other insects in terrariums. It isn't just butterflies! There are other animals in the green house as well, a few cute turtles (one was very friendly and loved to eat flowers), some fish and birds too.
The butterflies are beautiful and the flowers are wonderful as well. It's nicely arranged and really gives a very peaceful serine feeling. Oh course it is also a treat when they land on you. It tickles a bit and definitely brings a smile to little faces. My daughter really enjoyed her time and asked to go back again soon. Since it was so hot, one benefit was we basically had the whole place to ourselves.
The staff was very nice and friendly. You could tell they really loved butterflies and their job. Zach was so great with our daughter and really fun loving person who added more then just butterfly facts to our trip.
A great day if you love butterflies, just keep in mind the temperature. Also if you want a good meal on your way home stop at the Whately Diner. We had a great day and will definitely be...
