I'm absolutely obsessed with waterfalls so whenever we head up to the Poconos to visit friends that live in nearby Stroudsburg we make a point of visiting a couple. We stopped by Dingman's Falls last weekend when the weather was unseasonably warm so we were able to take our time to enjoy the walk. On Saturday we stopped by but found the gates locked and since we had plans that evening we didn't have time to make the hike from the parking area just off the main road so when we went back on Sunday I was pleasantly surprised to find the gates wide open (totally glad we didn't make the trek the day before after seeing how far it was from the lower lot). On our way to the visitor's center we stopped at a smaller falls on the left where dogs are allowed so our golden could get his water fix (he is totally obsessed with swimming) then headed up to the main "event". The visitor center was closed for the season but we were still able to check out the waterfalls. The path to the 2 main waterfalls is a boardwalk trail and you can see Silverthread falls as soon as you start walking the path. Silverthread is a tall, thinner waterfall that flows from the top of the mountain, right out of the woods - it was absolutely breathtaking; Dingman's Falls is just a short walk away from Silverthread at the end of the boardwalk and equally as breathtaking and there are stairs that lead to the top for even better views with viewing areas at several points on the way up but its worth noting that these stairs get very slippery from the mist from the falls. We didn't have a chance to check out the upper deck or to see if there were any hiking trails in the park as we had to head back home to Baltimore but we will definitely be back. The day we were there plenty of parking was available at the visitor center but I imagine the lot must get really full once the weather gets warmer but since the walk to both falls is so short people seem to be in and out within the hour so just be patient or you could also park at the smaller falls on the way up or of course at the bottom if you're up for a nice hike, well worth it no matter...
Read moreI first completed this trail on May 22, 2022, and it's such a beautiful and easy trail to hike/ walk!
The trail is made up of a wide boardwalk, with hand railings for most of the journey. There are quite a few shady spots, as well as a ton of benches / seating options provided throughout the trail. The shade and rest areas are such a great addition and really come in handy on super hot days and for anyone who may have trouble walking for long periods of time. The trail is very well kept and I really loved reading all of the information plaques / signs posted throughout.
The first waterfall you come across is the Silver Thred Falls, and the second is Digmans Falls - both are gorgeous and unique. When you reach the second (last) falls, there are stairs you can take to continue traveling upwards, which gives you the opportunity to view Dingman’s Falls and the surrounding area from above! Be warned, though, there can be a lot of stairs if you choose to travel up the staircase at the end by the second waterfall. So if stairs are difficult for you, you might want to pass on them.
This is a great family place, or even just to explore on your own, and there's no entrance fee! The bathrooms at the entrance (at the end of the parking lot) worked, but the water fountain did not, and the information building was closed when I last visited.

Read moreWith the visitor center closed and Dingman Falls Rd also closed just off of 209, the parking area quickly fills up. If you're on 209 and looking at the traffic light at route 739, go to the light and turn left. Follow 739 to Silver Lake Road and turn left. A short distance on that road and there is a sign on the left that says you're leaving the Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area and just before the sign is a dead end road. I believe it's called Doodle Hollow Road. Turn left onto that road. About a half mile back it will dead end into what looks like an old parking area and you're right next to Dingman Creek. There's a short walking bridge over the creek, turn left after you cross the bridge and walk up the hill. If you keep the creek to your left in about a half mile you come to the back side of the park and Dingman Falls is the first thing you come to. You can then walk out to the visitor center and just before the visitor center is Silverthread Falls. Much shorter distance than walking in from the 209 parking area. Falls are nice and the walkway is in good shape. Quite a few trees down in the area of Dingman Falls which does take away a bit of the scenery but I guess they're leaving it...
