Gordon’s Pond Beach offers a serene alternative to the busier Rehoboth Beach, making it a great spot for those seeking a quieter day by the ocean. Located just 5 minutes north of Rehoboth, this beach is part of Cape Henlopen State Park and provides a spacious and natural setting, especially at low tide when the shoreline expands.
Parking & Fees Parking is $5 for Delaware residents and $10 for out-of-state visitors. The parking area is conveniently located near the beach access point, making it easy to transport your gear. Please note that it's a pack-in, pack-out beach, so visitors are expected to take their trash with them.
Facilities Amenities are minimal but sufficient for a day trip. Portable restrooms are available, and there are foot showers to rinse off sand. There are no lifeguards on duty, so swimming is at your own risk. Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, provided they are on a leash.
Atmosphere & Activities The beach is clean and not overly crowded, making it ideal for families, couples, and solo visitors looking to relax. The surrounding area features the Gordons Pond Trail, a 3.2-mile path popular for walking, biking, and birdwatching. The trail offers scenic views of the lagoon and marshlands, with an elevated boardwalk providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. It's a great way to explore the natural beauty of the area before or after your beach time.
Overall Gordon’s Pond Beach is a peaceful and picturesque spot for a day at the beach. With its natural setting, ample space, and proximity to Rehoboth Beach, it's a wonderful choice for those looking to enjoy the outdoors in a more tranquil...
Read moreFantastic beach/alternative to the boardwalk etc but had to take off a star for the back up entry system that goes into effect when they cannot do not provide an attendant who as I recall only accepts cash. Had to wait in line for about 30 minutes because no one, it seemed, could figure out the one ticket machine they have.
First off, there needs to be more than one machine and secondly the machine does not provide adequate instructions for the average person, hence the average 5 minute wait per car. Had I not got out to help, the wait would have been a lot longer. Once you know how the system works -- enter credit card, select in state ($5) or out of state ($10 -- you will actually need to approve two payments of $5 for the out of state which caused some confusion since it was not explained) in order to make the purchase, and then you have to hit PRINT when the amount PAID is confirmed on the screen. Sounds relatively straightforward but the system relies too much on the user to figure it out.
When I got to the beach, I heard from several locals/frequenters that folks were getting discouraged and turning back or not coming -- people were thinking that the lot was filled but it was only half full. Moral of the story -- provide a better machine or more instructions on how to use them and get...
