We love the Steam Museum! This little park/museum is set in a wooded area just outside Hockessin. The setting is beautiful any time of year. It features a historic home, small pond and the steam museums and garages for the steam cars. After our first visit to a "Steamin' Days" event we bought a family membership and have not regretted it! The Steamin' Days are a great attraction especially for little ones. You can ride the miniature diesel and steam trains, or catch a ride on the steam bus or one of the historic cars that they run during events. They have free popcorn, activities for kids, and Woodside creamery has a truck there as well. The museum itself is a great little museum with neat and easy to read displays of information, historic cars and a train room with model trains running. it also has a small gift shop and two sets of public restrooms (which are always clean). The volunteers and staff are incredibly kind and informative and have been great with our toddler, sometimes even letting him sit in a historic car while he pretends to drive. My only complaint is the enormous tantrum our toddler throws when we have to leave, he loves it SO much!...

You can actually ride in all 3 road vehicles, as well as 1/8th scale steam and diesel trains. There is a mansion from a similar era available for tour. The museum gives you an overview of the early automotive industry, with demonstrations of starting a steam-powered automobile, a Stanley Steamer. Terrific day.
We visited on a "first Sunday of the month" event. That is why all of the amenities were available, I am not sure of other days, however, the event was very inexpensive, with all rides available for the price of waiting in line for your turn around the property 2 times.
I hope that this helps...
Read moreJust after the advent of mass-produced automobiles, engineers across the country got to work designing engines that ran on sources of energy other than gasoline.
The Marshal Steam Museum houses one of the country’s most complete and unique collections of antique and vintage cars, most of which are powered by steam engines and electric motors.
It’s a unique attraction that combines history, industry, and engineering. For many old-timers and classic car enthusiasts, their time spent on-site is truly a walk down Memory Lane.
The museum also features a scaled-down steam train that whisks visitors around the property on...
