Perfect place if you're looking to get out of the house and take a little drive. The Boynton location sits right on the outskirts of a nature preserve. It's really a beautiful piece of property that also offers a petting zoo on the weekends( if you're going just for the market you may want to go during the week or you will be fighting strollers and listening to screaming children) and a large field to pick your own (ck their site for a list of current crops).
They have a large array of items. Anything from the usual fruits and vegs to pickled peaches, specialty granola mixes, plants and wines.(Seemed appropriate w/ all the howling kids that they were giving out samples of wine that day.) The prices aren't great but the quality seems better than at some of the other local markets.
I had seen on FB a petting zoo that was offering sloth encounters, not realizing it was at Bedner's. While we shopped I couldn't understand why there were so many children. Duh!! Not sure if there is a separate place to review the petting zoo so I'll TRY to make it brief here. It was amazing to see and learn about a sloth. All the employees were helpful and friendly. You do have to pay an extra $25 to go into the Exotic Animal area but to see and pet the sloth was included in the gen adm for $10. They sell carrot sticks for the camels and food pellets for the goats and cow. You can walk among the sheep and little baby goats just be careful where you step. Bring your camera, a good bit of cash and some comfortable shoes. Great place for a first casual day date. The people watching is almost just as good and you will definitely find out a good bit about a person from that kind of experience. And you women that wear high heel shoes you may want to actually bring a pair of sneakers. Also those taking kids, please be aware of what they're doing instead of standing there oblivious as your kid picks up pieces of sheep poo and throws it at the animals. If you don't care enough about what your kids are doing I'm not going to stop them from picking it up and then putting their hands in their mouth. Just...
Read moreI contacted Robin last Monday, five days before I planned to stay for a Harvest Host visit. She was very pleasant, told me that we would have another RV with us Saturday evening, that we should park in the back overflow lot, and to arrive before 6pm because the gate would be locked at that time. I shared with her that we would arrive early afternoon so that we could take advantage of farm picking and marketing. She said that would be great.
Well, this afternoon, we arrived at around 1:30pm. I called inside to ensure I was parked in the right space. A young lady named Genie told me to come to register five and she'd come out with me to check. My husband went in with our Harvest Host card and she came back out a few minutes later and told us we should be okay in the spot (we were in the very last space at back of the lot.) She told us to wait there.
About five minutes later, Lane came out and told us we need to leave and come back after 5:00 because he needed the spot for paying customers. I told him that we were going in to shop in the market as well as "U-Pick" with our four year old, so we'd be paying customers. He forcefully told us, "You need to leave right now." He went on to say that he didn't want any trouble and that he wouldn't allow any RVs to park during business hours. I knew that was a lie because I've read the other reviews about Harvest Host members shopping in the market. I didn't respond and prepared to leave.
I decided to call to speak with Robin or Marie for clarification, because by this time, my four year old was upset that she'd waited several days for this. Lane answered the phone and when I asked if either of the ladies were available, he answered, "No, you are speaking with me." I asked to be connected to voicemail and he said, "No, you will speak with me only."
I am left completely despondent after this experience, and I am am hoping that this was a unique situation that I won't have...
Read moreWe come here every year during the winter-spring strawberry season. We love bringing the kids to pick strawberries in Bedner's U-Pick farm and they love the experience so much that they get excited when we tell them it's that time of year. The strawberries are just as good from Bedner's farm as those grown in Plant City (Florida Strawberry Festival site) and a lot closer for anyone who lives in Southeast Florida. We picked a bucket full of strawberries that would be prize winners. We also shopped the market for veggies and the freshly baked multi-grain bread. We come here year round for the bread. It is better than that produced by many bakeries. The strawberries were the big treat today though.. This is a wonderful place to bring the kids and let them have fun picking. The price is right, for sure, as entertainment for kids. While picking is fun for the whole family, I'll pass along a tip for any bargain hunters reading this: the fruit and veggies from U-Pick might cost more than the same items for sale in the store. Today, the container of strawberries inside the market was 5.99 and weighed 1.5 pounds, which was slightly less than the U-Pick price per pound. The bell peppers, however, were the same price inside and out, $1 each. We have been here other times when the U-Pick costs less per pound or per count. It varies. We always like to check the price inside the market before walking out...
