Although I was not raised in Florida, I moved here centuries ago and fell in love with state’s springs. This spring is located across the street a bit from from the St. John’s River. I didn’t plan on visiting this spring that day, but did because we wanted to take beautiful photos of my family before my child’s prom.

I didn’t realize that there is so much history about this spring until I began to roam after the photos. I did some research and found that Green Springs Park, nestled in Deltona, is a sanctuary steeped in both history and natural allure. Dating back centuries, and I can’t believe how many centuries, which dates back to the 1800’s. This site has been revered by Native American tribes for its mineral-rich springs, believed to possess healing properties. Over time, it evolved into a popular destination for early settlers seeking respite and rejuvenation.

Did you know that the story of sprayed snails, or more commonly known as the “painted snails,” are an intriguing feature of Green Springs Park? These snails are not naturally occurring; rather, they are an artistic expression left by visitors dating back to the 1900’s who utilize non-toxic, water-based paints to adorn the shells of the snails found in the park. People continue to spray non-toxic shells in honor of the settlers who believed this was a magical place of healing. While some may view this as a form of harmless decoration, others see it as a disruption to the natural environment. Nevertheless, these colorful creatures have become somewhat of a whimsical attraction within the park, adding a unique touch to its landscape and serving as a testament to the creativity and interaction of its visitors.

Settlers were drawn to Green Springs Park in Deltona not just for its picturesque beauty but also for the perceived healing properties of its mineral-rich springs. Indigenous peoples had long revered these springs for their purported ability to cure ailments and promote wellness. Early settlers, influenced by Native American traditions and their own experiences, also came to believe in the therapeutic effects of the springs’ waters. It became a place where people sought relief from various ailments, such as rheumatism, arthritis, and skin conditions. This belief in the healing powers of the springs contributed to the park’s popularity as a destination for health and rejuvenation, shaping its history and significance over time.

Today, Green Springs Park remains a testament to the enduring charm of Florida’s wilderness, boasting lush foliage, serene trails, and the ethereal beauty of its crystalline waters. Its tranquil ambiance invites visitors to explore and connect with nature, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of its past while fostering a sense of wonder and serenity in the present.

It is one mile long and same back and the bike trails connects to both The Florida Coast to Coast Trail and The St. John’s River to sea loop. You might even get to see the old rail road line that traveled through the region connecting its communities.

If you live in the area, are passing by Deltona or are like me, just trying to visit every Florida spring possible, make this stop. It’s just a few miles off of I-4. Don’t forget your bathing suit! If you really put time into discovering the park, you just might find some...

Always a pleasure to visit. There was that one time I visited with my fiance and dog a couple of years ago. we went for a walk off the beaten path. ( There are some rugged trails off the main one possibly deer trails ) but there is a small, shallow, cold, clear stream back there in that rainforest where I like to let my pit bull play in the water without worry of of alligators. One time though we found some decapitated chickens. Two or three. No one would see the them of course unless they made their way back to that wild area. Then we saw a couple of teenage boys around 16. They looked disgruntled. Not saying they did it but they were acting strange. So I think they went back there and decapitated these poor chickens for whatever reason, be it they are serial killers In the making or they were sacrificing them to their supposed god. this was a couple of years ago and if whoever did it, be those boys or someone else I hope they get what's coming to them. But it's a safe place. I would just be careful going anywhere by yourself, especially if you are a female jogger or bicyclist. Carry some sort of weapon. A knife, pepper spray and leave one ear bud out so you can at least be half way aware of your surroundings. I don't type this to scare anyone away. Like I said it's a beautiful place with a playground and picnic areas and trails. I tell you all this because you never know who is lurking in these public but solitary places. Be safe but...

If you’re in Central Florida, this spot is an absolute must-visit! As soon as you arrive, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a lush tropical island, far from the hustle and bustle of daily life. One of the most striking features here is the stunning green water, which is unlike anything you’ll see in most places. It adds a unique charm to the area and makes for some incredible photo opportunities.

The location offers plenty to do for visitors of all ages. There are beautiful walking trails that wind through serene natural surroundings, perfect for a leisurely stroll or an adventurous hike. If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll love the playground, which provides plenty of space for them to run, climb, and play. For those looking to relax or enjoy a meal outdoors, the picnic tables scattered throughout are perfect for a family gathering or a quiet moment to soak in the scenery.

However, one thing to keep in mind is the distinctive sulfur smell in the air, which some people may find unpleasant. Don’t let that deter you, though—it’s part of the natural environment and well worth enduring for the incredible experience this place offers. You won’t regret...
