This place is close to me, as well as the local dollar tree/Publix plaza (a walk away) and the playground is the Largest with many slides and large variety of play options and obstacles that I've seen in a public park. Love it. There's a lovely all-nature trail (which you'd want to avoid during rainy season when mosquitoes are mass-producing) which starts at the park entrance and ends at the back of the park. There's a beautiful giant tree that I love in there, plus plenty of other really old trees to admire. The trail has a number of benches for you to rest or sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
It's been a few years since my initial review and they since have built a few wooden bridges for the areas that get swampy. There's a few new routes to take throughout the trail, and a neat little pretend school setup made of concrete slabs near the entrance of the trail. My favorite large tree seems to have been cut at the top, potentially due to damage from weather or hurricane. There are a couple of signs around the trail sharing a bit if...

Thornby Park is a delightful spot that perfectly balances charm with nature. It's a kid- and dog-friendly park with a sizable playground, clean bathrooms, and water fountains for both humans and dogs. What really impressed me, though, was the beautiful trail tucked to the side of the park.
The trail is a hidden gem, offering a serene walk through a canopy of trees. Along the way, you'll cross a cute little bridge over a creek, pass by outdoor classrooms, and find bits of local history to read. The trail isn’t very long—probably about half a mile one way—but it’s perfect for a relaxing stroll, especially if you decide to walk back for an additional loop. Despite the proximity to the main road, the dense tree coverage completely blocks it from view, making the trail feel secluded and peaceful.
Parking is convenient with plenty of spaces, including handicap spots. Overall, Thornby Park is a super cute and charming place that’s perfect for a family outing or a peaceful...
Read moreThornby's a Great local park for kids of all ages and has a nice new trail meandering around its historic grounds; if you look around, there's some really nice old growth fauna here and you'll see the old rail bed. It's also a great place to park if you're doing the spring to spring trail; it's sort of centrally located nearer Green Springs. The area has a lot of forgotten history and it might be fun for some looking into it.
Sports one of the better handicapped accessible play areas, that's what most people will see here; but without cover, this one's best early or late or under cloud cover. You don't want to be under that hot Florida sun, it's too damn hot.
Very thankful this park opened up when my little one was coming up, she Loved it. ...
