I read many reviews on the three airboat companies recognized by the national park. My conclusion was to go to Everglades Safari park. We are very happy we did. Our experience was good. We arrived on a day we knew there would be a risk of storms. When we first arrived they had just put a pause on the rides and couldn't say how long it would be because the weather is unpredictable. We were okay with this because we only planned this for today so we had time to wait and had not purchased tickets yet. Had we purchased tickets they did say they would refund them. The park rangers were all very nice and welcoming.
We decided to wait in the restaurant and we got a couple of cold treats. The ladies inside seemed a little more standoffish than the park rangers. If you get a chance try the double Carmel on a stick it was so good. We met some nice ladies waiting that ordered gator bites and they shared a bite with us... tastes like chicken.
We didn't have the wait too long before we noticed they opened the lines. We got in line and were on the first boat out. We had brought our own rain ponchos based on previous reviews so if you own any bring them with you in case it's a wet day otherwise they sell them in the gift shop. Make sure also if you are wearing a hat it is one that ties down because you will lose it when you go fast if it is not. Sunglasses are also helpful for the wind blowing when they pick up speed. Something we didn't use but brought because of other reviews was bug spray. There are days it is worse than others so bring just in case. We saw several alligators and some birds. It was great when they got up to speed. Our tour guide was awesome. After the ride they have a little show where they educate you on alligators and feed a couple. It was amazing to see these respond to their name and react to the park ranger. The alligators in the show are born and raised in captivity so this would not happen in the wild but was fun to see. After our tour we decided to stop at the other locations to check out their gift shops. Of the three we definitely choose the one with the nicest gift shop. One of the others wouldn't take credit cards for purchases under $5, but our did. We also found that after stopping at the other locations we were very happy with our decision to pass on by and get to the Everglades Safari Park to tour there. It was overall just a...
Read moreWe founds tickets on Groupon for $20/each vs. $25/each. We got an additional discount which brought the cost to $15 per person.
We drove several minutes down the road passing several other venues before we found Safari Park. The sign was huge, you can't miss it . There is no charge for parking but it is scarce.
After you find a place to park, the ticket booth will be on your right and the bathrooms will be on your left . They also have a gift shop and restaurant where you can stop before boarding for the Airboat tour .
There are small and large boats we were lucky enough to sit in a smaller boat. The airport airboat tour itself was okay. They provide you with free earplugs because it gets pretty noisy but boating around was very uneventful. We did not see as many crocodiles as I had hoped for but our tour guide Amy was nice enough to try and find some. The most crocodiles you're going to see is closer to the venue the main part of the venue. Make sure you bring a bottle of water and put on Plenty of bug repellent before boarding the boat tour. Be sure to bring some cash because the boat guides requested take them at the end.
After 20 or 30 minutes on the boat or we were directed to the stadium area where we got to experience a less than 10 minutes show. It was okay but I was expecting a little bit more, the crocodiles seem very docile. After the show you are directed outside where you can pay $3 to take a photo with the baby crocodile, personally I don't think it's worth it.
After the show you can walk around the rest of the venue where they have several different Bridges a large pond or Marsh but there's not much to see but trees and water. They also have a small reptile museum but there's not much in it. If you're hungry you can eat at the restaurant or buy gifts at the gift shop.
Overall it was okay for the price we. However if we had paid the original price of $25 per person I don't think it would have been worth it at all. Do some research and check for other venues...
Read moreI came here as part of an excursion while I was cruising America, it was the highlight of my entire cruise and definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had.
While there I got to experience an airboat ride for a considerable amount of time. During this I got to see alligators, all types of birds and insects as well as some cool fish. Even though the airboat looks crowded and crammed, it's surprisingly spacious and safe feeling. The engines are indeed loud and earplugs are recommended, however do not worry as they provide those for you.
After the Airboat ride I got to experience an alligator show, where we learned much about alligators and the Everglades in general. During this the alligators were also fed and did a little trick or two which was amazing to watch. The staff also brought out to the crowd a snake and a baby alligator of which the latter you could pay $5 to take a picture with; the proceeds go to look after the alligator.
The next step was a walk through safari where there are paths and bridges with alligators just chilling next to you as you walk around and explore. It's obvious but I will state it anyway, just because there are no barriers does not mean you should get close and personal with the wildlife. It was an exhilarating and educational experience that I highly value and hope to experience something of the sort again.
To finalize the trip there is, like most places, a gift/souvenir shop. Of which there was a lot of different merchandise, including the stereotypical shirts and magnets. However there is so so much more there too. It is more on the expensive side, which I expected due to the location being in the middle of nowhere, but I would definitely recommend buying something as I personally regret not getting something.
Overall I would highly recommend visiting here, even if you're apprehensive I can assure you it's safe and one of the best experiences you'll have. Just be sure to follow rules, these are here...
