Escape Dothan — Attraction in Dothan

Let me preface this by saying that despite the shortcomings, we had a good time, and the staff was competent, and friendly. Now to where I felt let down by the experience. We tried the 13th floor room. They didn't do much to sell the idea behind the room, or give any real motivation for solving the puzzles. It ended up feeling a bit like wandering around blindly, and being quite frustrating to start out with. The other escape rooms I have been to, they have a background story, or the danger was made apparent. Then lastly after we solved all the puzzles we din't make it through the door, because the last "puzzle" didn't have any clues or anything that would have let you have that aha moment epiphany, and escape.

I write this review not to bash the place, or anything like that. I write this hoping it gets seen, and then used as inspiration to make the place even better. I am really glad that we have something like this around here. If this place gets better, I will definitely update my review with a...

It was very clean, and the staff tried very hard to make it professional.. However, my fiance and I have been to many escape games and never had one where you had to solve something by knowing the answer before entering the room (without clues or a clue that would lead to the answer). Also, one of the clues was taken out of the room because someone had vomited in it the night before, and we spent plenty of time trying to find it. Most of the clues were not necessarily tied into the theme of the room or logical to solve. Also, (may or may not matter to other people) it was uncomfortable having the owner openly carrying a gun (not part of the room theme). Overall, we still had fun. Last night my daughter and I made our first visit to Escape Dothan and took on Murder at the Mansion. We both love playing "Clue" and saw this as an opportunity to play a live, interactive version of a murder mystery game. We had a BLAST!! We didn't quite complete the room in time (it's a lot for just one adult and a child - as she and I were the only ones in our group), but we got pretty close and had a great time while doing it. We had so much fun that we weren't even disappointed that we weren't able to complete it. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying the other...
