Douglas State Forest is ~6,000 acre woodland state park that is home to Wallum Lake. The state park is in Massachusetts that borders with CT and RI.
what can't i say about Douglas State Forest that isn't going to be awesome?!! Athere is a huge lake for fishing, boating, swimming or catching some sun on the lakeside beach. tons of picnic sites and public grills. Miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. if the outdoors is your things, there is a galore of things to do...checkout out the website and gear up.
Day parking $9 for MA residents and $15 for non-residents.
Have not been to DSF in the winter, but summertime is the jam! Lakeside beaches to catch rays. Clean water swimming. There are plenty of place to hide from the sun if you need shade. If motorized or non-motorized boats are your thing--then you're in luck. There's a ton of picnic tables and public grills--all you need is food to cook, charcoal, and matches!
There's public restrooms near all of the heavily trafficked sites.
Obviously if you are going to come here, plan ahead--. make sure you have all the gear you need as there is no place to buy or rent it on-site.
on warm weekends, get here early like 8-9 am bc it will get crowded and you might not be able to stake out some space by the lake if you are looking to swim, bbq, etc. Plus, you get a whole day in nature! take advantage of state and national parks--our taxes help pay for it!
drops mic cuz...

One word of caution - whilst my wife and I were walking we.came upon a man walking by himself in a hoodie and I immediately though to myself, no way I'd like my wife alone in this situation without our big dog at her side - it.can be quite quiet in this park so my advice is don't go alone if your a woman and honestly if your smart, never go alone as if your in trouble you could be SOL if your cell service doesn't work well, Verizon didn't seem to be great, I have T-Mobile but I never did check so I can't comment - anyways, I thought that some of the markings were faded and we were on the blue trail, we came in from Snett and we're going to do a 5.mile walk but we ended up doing 3 miles almost exactly as we realized we'd started too late. So, in summation, this park was lightly used when we were there and as such I'd be cautious going alone but if you want a vigorous hike or even an easy one, as this does have wide paths, visit here with your dogs in tow - my...
Read moreThis place has alot of picnic tables with grills(bring your own charcoal), two pavilions with extra large sized grills for large groups, a field, a beach area divided in two sections, life guards on duty, a boating entrance 😊 (bring your skidoos), walking trails for family hiking, a field for sports, bathrooms and Leashed Dogs are welcomed, I don't believe they're allowed in beach area. Usually an ice cream truck on premises to buy ice cream. Entrance to park is $11 per vehicle for non-residents handicap discount. 4 stars because there are no real changing/shower areas. Also, Walking to beach and picnic areas can be a chore with small children or heavy loads. So pack as light as you can get ready to grill, swim, play, explore and relaxing while being happy all day away from the city. My family loves this place. I forgot to mention that hammocks are welcome and handicapped parking is seperate. This Park fills up fast on the weekends and has been filled to capacity. So try to get there...
