5 STARS! ONE OF A KIND EXPERIENCE! We drove from Tennessee to Georgia to find some new escape games to do. We have completed nearly every available Escape Game in Tennessee. The games here have been some of my favorites!! As a group we did Cabin Hunted, Hopper's Cabin, and The Maze: Curse of the Dragon. We really wanted to Pig Farmer and The Bunker but they were fully booked months in advance. I had to admit Cabin Hunted was our least favorite but still very enjoyable! A short walk into the woods and you arrive at an actual cabin where your game begins. Our game master was great, constantly teasing us with dark humor and trying to scare us. We used all our 3 clues and were truly stuck for a while. We made it out barely: punching in the final code seconds before our time was up. As for Hopper's Cabin, I don't think it is advertised enough that this is the actual cabin Stranger Things was filmed in!! Netflix contacted this property, built the cabin, and has filmed several episodes onsite. We were told they just recently were there filming for Season 4! Scenes were also filmed in their corn maze and pumpkin patch! The game itself was challenging and exciting. I highly recommend watching Stranger Things before attempting this game - it was so neat to sit on the same couches Eleven did in front of the TV. The last game The Maze was my favorite Escape Game of all time. I can't express how fun and exhilarating it was trying to find your way through a maze while solving puzzles. Very very well thought out. It was so much fun racing the clock on this one. Can't wait to go back and do the...
Read moretldr; We made the most of the Maze, but Escape Woods is a floundering execution on the enticing concept of outdoor escape rooms. Escape room enthusiasts beware, and read on for a more in-depth review.
Immersion Virtually none except for an unbelievable amount of large spiders and an excitingly large play area. Design choices could be best described as backwoods church annual haunted hayride meets medieval cosplay. Respectfully to the owner who is "best buds" with a "bigtime prop master": your buddy gave you the props that were bokeh'd out hundreds of feet in the background. They are not good. Among other complaints, doorknobs affixed to non-door surfaces are not decor.
Puzzles The puzzle flow consists of almost exclusively riddle and word puzzles with a few mechanical or do-the-obvious-task puzzles thrown in. There are also some dire logic leaps required. We tended to spot the next puzzle and its connected clues with relative ease but come out with the wrong code over and over based on a technicality or red herring. Relatively few good "Aha!" moments.
Game Master Our GM was polite, but I cannot say that he added anything of value to the experience. I'm not a fan of omniscient outside-the-world game masters via walkie talkie on the best of days, but I despise having to walk the GM back through where we are in the game to have him repeat information we already know or frustratedly reveal the answer because he doesn't know how to give an actual clue. I don't know if it is a gaping training deficit or if this is just how...
Read moreAfter having played 320 escape rooms across the country, I have started to see trends among the industry in terms of game design. However, my expectations of how an escape room operates were completely shattered by Escape Woods, and I mean that in the best sense possible. From walking the short path in the woods into the actual Stranger Things cabin to navigating a sprawling maze filled with artifacts from some mysterious operation, Escape Woods consistently excelled at creating a believable atmosphere inhabiting highly authentic locales. The puzzles in each game were all deeply rooted into the theme of the room, often in surprising ways,. While there, we were also given the opportunity to try out their newest game, The Bunker, containing a wide variety of actual props from The Hunger Games trilogy. I am happy to report it not only met the high quality of their other 3 games, but it in some ways exceeded them with even more impressive set design and some incredible puzzle. The staff were all incredibly friendly and genuinely passionate about what they do, and it shows from their 4 must play games. Whether you're an escape room enthusiast or just getting into the industry, visit Escape Woods. I guarantee that you will never find another...
