Riprow Valley at Mines of Spain — Attraction in Dubuque

A unique starting point to enter the Mines of Spain area. There’s a great view of the river and train tracks from the parking lot. There is a short but very steep trail up to the Julien Dubuque Monument. Signage along trail explains it’s part of an original trail way leading settlers to Dubuque. The trail connects with multiple others in the Mines of Spain. There’s also a monument for Zebulon Pike who met briefly...

It has a nice history stand that is informative but it’s a little bit out of the way and a little sketchy. It only has the one trail that goes up to the Julian monument, which is a lot of up hill hiking. It is a very pretty hike though. It is also a bit confusing trying to understand where the ruins of historical smelting houses in the area...
