TLDR: Flat, scenic, and runner-friendly park with paved roads, great trail variety, and enough mileage for long-distance training. Perfect for casual walkers, serious runners, or anyone looking to get outdoors. Costs $3 to park
North Point State Park is a fantastic spot, especially if you're looking to get in some cardio or train for a race. The park is mostly flat, which makes it super accessible for all fitness levels, and there’s a surprising amount of paved road, perfect for running, walking, or biking.
From the main road to the end of the pier is about 4 miles round trip, and from the entrance guard station to the pier is almost exactly 3.1 miles—basically a built-in 5K! For anyone training for races, it’s a great, consistent loop.
There are also plenty of trails if you feel like exploring—one even has a wooden plank walkway, which is a fun little detour. And if you’re looking for a longer route, the park connects to a paved hauling road that’s closed to cars and stretches another 3.5 miles north. Combine that with the park’s internal roads and you've got about 13.2 miles of flat, uninterrupted paved path, a rarity for the area.
Scenic, quiet, and not overly crowded—this park is a great find for endurance training or just enjoying...
Read moreGreat location to take friends and family. Beautiful scenery to look at while walking along the beach front. Seems to be a popular location for fishing. Multiples of people were enjoying the day fishing, and several caught fish during the fifteen min I was sitting in a chair enjoying the view. I was there for a wedding. The beach front area had a large, covered area for hosting big events. It was perfect for the hundred and fifty plus people that attended. Near by the main beach front area, there is a place to quickly wash off outside, and about one hundred yards away, there is a larger restroom and clothes changing facility for public use. The wedding was on a Saturday, and the entrance fee for the park was three dollars. Not too bad considering the wonderful view and clean park and trails and beach front that is provided to the public. There was plenty of parking available for cars, trucks, and recreational vehicles. There was a slight bit of road construction near the main parking lot, but it did not impede the flow of traffic. It's just a sign that the park is reinvesting the donations given to them back into the park. Overall I enjoyed my time at North Point State Park. I will return before the season is...
Read moreI loved that the park was local, and that it takes less than 30 minutes to get to. It opened promptly at 8:00 AM as advertised. There was ample parking, but I'm not sure if this was due to me getting there when it first opened. The beach area seemed decent. My objective was to go hiking, so I can't speak on this too much. During my hike, there were sufficient color-coded markings on the trees to guide you on the trail. There were various paths to take. I started on the "white" trail, then went on the "purple" trail after. The first part was fine, but I had to run out of the second trail because the bugs were merciless. They were relentless. No amount of swatting kept these persistent bugs at bay. That's why it didn't receive all 5 stars.
There were a couple positive things that I experienced on my trip. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I witnessed a baptism. And, I watched an avid fisherman reel in a huge catfish on the pier. I recommend the pier because it has a great deal of chairs to sit and look out at the peaceful water. This all happened in 2 hours at...
