Outstanding sunsets, kayak, SUP and sailboat rentals adjoining a tropical thatched roofed restaurant at the north end before the small bridge. There are restroom facilities for the park, water fountains and spigot for animal hydration, outside showers adjacent to restrooms. Great view of Dunedin Sound, Palm Harbor, Anclote island and Tarpon Springs in the distance can be seen on a clear sunny day. At times of year, sea fog can roll in from the Gulf limiting visibility.
This is a launching place for weekend wave runners, and fishing is permitted on the Southside of the drawbridge and all along the causeway. Many fisherman wade out on either the north or south sides of the causeway to fish or crab. Can be very windy at times exceeding 20 knots.
This is the way towards the entrance to Honeymoon Island State Park (admission required) for park only. Also access to some high rise condos which sits north, just before the Park's entrance.
A water taxi is available for access to the island which has some the world's best sandy beaches and at times shelling. Beware of hiking into woodsy, scrub pine areas, rattlesnakes inhabit those areas! It's not often talked about but a sheriff's deputy I spoke with said the north part of the island is infested with rattlesnakes. As long as one stays along the beach areas you should be fine.
2025 UPDATE **Due to last yearβs two severe hurricanes the restaurant on Honeymoon Island is closed & restroom facilities on Honeymoon Island are portable pottyβs. ** Sail Honeymoon, a long standing kayak & sailboat rental and its tiki themed bar/restaurant is still open. A great place for refreshments while watching the sunset. Limited menu with snacks. Respect their advice on availability of sailing based on weather.
**Rip tides can form off the island. April 2025 emergency response were called due to near drownings. **When crossing the drawbridge onto Dunedin Causeway, please note that the road on the left of the bridge on the south side of the causeway has been closed. Barriers are up. Wave runner operators can no longer launch there. ** Fishing is still permitted on the north side of the causeway. **The Dunedin Sailing Club is now launching their prams from this north side of Dunedin Causeway due to the Closure of Dunedin Marina and the blocked entrance to the Gulf side of the marina and destruction of the sailing clubs historic club house which will be rebuilt.
In the park is a restaurant upstairs with good food, and beverages which stays open just past sunset so you can observe the sun's glorious descent until another day. The beach is wide and Sandy and a boardwalk extends from the parking lot to the beach with shower and rest room facilities available. Good place to have picnic's, fly kites, drone photography and bring your dog/s to walk along dog beach which hugs the passage to and from the Gulf.
On weekends, many local motorboaters meet up with friends and anchor together near the pass. You'll also see a fare share of kayakers, although if you're kayaking be careful crossing the channel where motorboaters fly through those waters leaving and entering the Gulf throughout the day especially during peak afternoon hours. The water can get quite choppy from each boat's wake. Time your channel crossing with your kayak carefully not to get hit or considerably rocked by adjacent waves, especially from the larger 30 foot plus vessels!
Dunedin Causeway is a great place to pull over your vehicle, park, walk, jog, rollerblade or bike along side of the causeway. Be careful of bicyclists. They have a tendency to come from behind without an audible warning and zoom past.
During the weekend, plan to go early. By 11- noon traffic backs up, especially when the drawbridge is raised for passing sailboats from Clearwater and Dunedin heading north to Tarpon Springs and vice versa. There can be a lot of weekend water traffic by power, sail and rowing depending on the weather. On windy days, kite surfers gather usually on the north end where there's less...
Β Β Β Read moreThe Dunedin Causeway is a long strip between 2 small bridges with water on both sides. As you approach Honeymoon Island Park, the first bridge offers a small fishing area on both sides of the road and bridge winding along underneath it. After the 1st bridge on the right side, the long causeway has a predominately rocky waters edge where you can fish, a dirt road with many access points to drive or park and is used mostly to fish. There are numerous park benches on both sides for resting or viewing the scenery. At the end, another bridge which also offers fishing areas on either side of the road. The left side provides more of a beach type pebbly/sandy edge also having a dirt road with many access points. The entire strectch has a hard surface walkway for joggers, bikers, walkers and sightseers to comfortably travel. First is an area for jet ski trailers to unload , then a long stretch for parking, fishing and relaxing along the waters edge. About 3/4 ways down is a public bathroom, kayak rental and the High & Dry Grill with outdoor seating, some food and cold beer. The only place on the causeway where drinking is allowed. Then, another stretch of pebbly beach for sunbathing, swimming and kayaking and ending with a...

The moment your tires kiss its sun-warmed pavement, you are transported into a coastal dreamland where dolphins dance in the distance and seabirds orchestrate a symphony of freedom.
The water on either side? A mesmerizing canvas of blues and greens so vivid they make the Caribbean jealous. The breeze? A whispered promise of adventure, scented with salt and sunshine. Fishermen stand like ancient philosophers at the waterβs edge, casting their lines into fate, while kayakers glide effortlessly over the glassy sea, as if powered by the very spirit of the ocean itself.
And the sunsetsβoh, the sunsets! They donβt just set; they explode in a crescendo of fiery oranges, dreamy pinks, and regal purples, painting the heavens with the kind of beauty that makes poets weep and Instagrammers scramble for the perfect shot.
