As soon as you get off of the freeway entrance there will be parking off to the right hand side and a sign that will say "hedge creek falls". If you want an attainable spot for a hike go early so you can get the free parking. It is dog friendly and there is no entrance fee! This waterfall and the hike is fully shaded. The dirt is loose so wear good hiking boots bc you'll be eating dust walking behind someone. The waterfall itself is beautiful, the water is about up to my tummy deep at the foot of the waterfall and the cave behind it is super cool to look at. After the nice easy hike there resting here for photos is perfect. All the people who came waited for their turns to take photos, we even took photos for others. The trail will take you to mossbrae Falls as well or you can just walk further and explore the trail, its actually very beautiful. The hike from beginning of the trail to the waterfall is probably half a mile or less. There is also a local who comes out to sell fresh eggs, honey, and other goodies. Bring cash if you're interested in that. I hope you have fun there! Read my post on Mossbrae falls by checking...
Read moreThis park is literally right off the freeway which means it gets busy quickly (especially on a holiday weekend - Memorial Day). The trail to the falls is downhill and slippery in some areas - wear appropriate footwear. Lots of switchbacks, lots of people. Once at the bottom, the falls are very noisy and there's an area that looks like it was scooped out so you can walk behind the 9th wonder of the world - viewing the back of a waterfall. Getting to the other side of the falls, you'll see some hand prints on the tower rocks above you - probably not original to the landscape and a terrible way to deface nature, but they look permanent and if effort was made to remove them, it might do more damage to the rock faces. We did hear a train go by and the tracks are a little more of a walk further downstream. Parking is going to be difficult as the lot fills up very fast. Guests to the site need to pack out what they bring in; lots of trash in the upper park area despite trash cans...
Read moreLoved it. I wish Dunsmuir was working more diligently to link Mossbrae falls, too, but it's not really a priority. There are signs up asking for help. Hedge Creek Falls is a beautiful multi-tiered fall that also has a grotto. The cave has handprints that I love to see. The walk down is not strenuous and it's a great spot to rest. Since it's in a valley, there aren't many sounds from the surrounding area other than the periodic train horns and engines. The walkway can be slick or icy, so take care to mind your steps. After the falls is another part of the trail that takes you to the Sacramento River. There is a viewing platform of the river. If you turn off just before the platform, there is a trail that leads down to the water. There are lots of gray...
