The park was created in about 1963 with Dale Tate as Director of Park and Recreation during the administration of Bert Williams. The park contains a flood retention pond holding 71-acre feet of water at which point the water drains of down Wedgewood Street. The bank of the lake are 2/100 feet meaning that if a toddler waded in the lake out 50 feet, someone would have to hold it head under water for him to drown. To get this plan approved by the city council took a hard sell on my part as here before retention lakes had steep banks secured by a chain link fence for safety which was existing on the site, an eye sore, at least and in my opinion, dangerous to the neighborhood. I did the Master Plan for development, the lake topography, and the landscape or planting plan. The P& R Department brought about the pond, roads, picnic facilities, parking lots, irrigation system and turf grass, trees, and the three ball diamonds for with lights for the initial development. The pond required the city buy additional land and moving a lot of dirt to shape it as required by the approved plan. The Master Plan set aside space for a recreation center and other facility as fund become available. Seeing the park on a typical afternoon with its mature trees in use with a 1000 or more participant enjoying the park and the now existing recreation center as called for on the master plan 54 year later is gratifying and somewhat...
Read moreThis particular dog park is okay if you happen to go on a cloudy day. There is no shade cover for humans and no bench to sit and watch your dog. They do have agility equipment for the dogs which is nice but the rock/pebble ground cover is a little strange. Gets hot for dog paws. There is also just one area for all sizes of dogs. Other parks have a designated area for small dogs and another for large dogs. There is also no water spout for the dogs so take your own. At least there are baggies to pick up after your dog. Album park is such a beautiful park with tons of grass and trees. The dog park was a little disappointing. Maybe they could move the dog area to where there could be shade and add benches. Also there is not a double gate which makes it hard to go in and out without your pooch...
Read moreVery Nice Park, I went to check it out for my dogs. It is beautiful, green and lots of trees, places to sit and there is places for kids to play and a ball park. It is a huge park. However, if your looking for a fenced area for pets, this place does not have one. Unsure if dogs can run around unleashed but I saw most dogs there with owners on a leash. I saw a couple off the leash, so I am assuming it is ok as long as your dogs are ok around other dogs. There is bags for the poop available, I only saw one place to het those and I tried to look for others and dog sign rules and a fountain and didnt see any, but then again I just did a drive around to check it out so. In all it is...
