Read moreThis natural habitat is so relaxing! We camped in a tent for 3 nights at the end of June and LOVED IT!! We've stayed here once before in June and enjoyed our time then as well. We loved walking all the raised board walk nature trails, as well as relaxing at the clean tent camping site. Everything was so convenient! Each site has a fire pit, a picnic table, and poles (to string a line between). My little boy (age 6) loved the warm water beach, riding his scooter on the raised board walk nature trails, playing at the camp site, and visiting the camp store. The bathrooms are clean and conveniently located. They do a good job of repairing the boardwalks for safety. I ESPECIALLY LOVED climbing the lookout tower to see the BEAUTIFUL sunset and full moon. (P.S. we didn't plan that. GOD just Blessed us with HIS awe-inspiring Beautiful of Nature!) There are also pavilions scattered throughout the park (mostly at the Beach sites) to use at your convenience. Just know that basic things like Ice , wood, lighters, etc. are half price at the stores if you take a 5-10 minute ride into town. And with most of the water being warm, there are CERTAIN SPOTS in the park (NOT the beach site!) that they have posted signs warning of the possibility of Alligators. The Beach is too close to the Boat launch and other activities for the possibility of Alligators. We Loved Every Minute we spent at Big Lagoon State Park and plan on making more Great memories there...
Read moreSadly disappointed in the Big Lagoon State Park, Years ago I took my children there and loved it. This time I took my grandkids, I didn’t get on the website to check it out because we had been here multiple times before. So it was very disappointing to pay at the gate and no one told us that everything was closed except for the little area by the boat dock. We found this out after we paid and got in the park and see the do not enter signs. You would think the person at the check un station would explain this before they take your money. I would happily give the 6 dollars and left the park. We was approached by a fisherman telling us this was not a good place to hangout in the water because of stingrays, pretty scary for a 3 and 6 year old, not to mention the adults being terrified to let the excited little ones in the water.. The sand was black and there were wasp nest in it. Very unclean and unsafe.. We left with two very unhappy kids who was excited to get in the waveless pool of water and explore like my children had done in the past. I understand the hurricane damage and still working on repairs, what I don’t understand is why it’s not posted at the gate letting everyone know before they enter. Not everyone gets on websites before they go.. I really hope the staff gets everything cleaned up and opened up because it is a beautiful place past the boat dock/...
