The museum is free and has free parking 50 cent drink machine inside as well as bathrooms. They have a video that they request for everyone to watch and lots to see including "Dutchy" one of the first granite statues for Elberton South Carolina. If you're in the area you might as well stop by. And don't forget to pick up your free piece of granite as a souvenir.

A short interesting film to watch on the history of granite in the area. Displays of different types of granite. It was cool to see how the tools and techniques to quarry granite have changed over the years from the beginning to modern times. The staff was nice and more than willing to answer all of our questions.

The museum was informative and very well done, but not all that interesting for the kids. They were warned not to touch anything as soon as we walked in and then had to sit and watch a video, so they were bored before the movie was over. Lots of good information about the local granite business.

I didn't want to give a star at all. I convinced my mom to take a day off work (at the hospital) and since I am home schooled it would a great opportunity to do a roadtrip. So that being said we planned an fun educational event. We left our house in Sc, headed to Ga, our first stop was by accident in at the Lake Heartwell Dam. It was beautiful, from there we went, headed to the Ga. Guide stone, it was beautifully done loved the history of it. Seeing the work and reading the sculpture. We next headed to the museum, we checked the website, watched the short story video, planned accordingly to arrive on time so we could get the full effect. I was so excited. But got let down, I feel guilty, mom lost a day of pay, it cost her a tank and half of gas, plus a hotel room. So you can tell us you are closed for some class. Why did you not post it on your website, letting potential visitors know so they didn't waste their money on a trip. I now have no intrest in visiting. And just a few words of advice from a child to a company. Use the manners you were taught., dont just apologize after someone drove over 4 hours to visit. Save others the headaches and post a notice on...

Worth dropping in. If looking for some free granite look for grout piles of trash stone. Sometimes worth picking over. Beware they are heavy. If concerned about picking. Stop at offices near pile and ask if you can pick. Most are agreeable. Some want to see what you pick and may ask for $5 to $50 depending on how good the item is. Worth the look...
