I love this trail. Great views and rock formations. It says 7.7 miles but that is not correct. It is more. They don't count the walk from the boat ramp across the boardwalk and dam. Pay attention to not get off on the backpack trail as it is very long but still a great trail. There are little trail loops off of the main lakeshore trail that are good like whisky run. YOU WILL GET YOUR FEET WET!!!! its unavoidable at the extreme end of the lake in the swampy area. A few places you have to cross in ankle deep water. Be prepared and bring water. All in all a great trail for avid hikers and I would not...
Read moreLake Vesuvius is my absolute favorite place in Ohio to go hiking and backpacking! The Lakeshore trail offers a breathtaking hike with the trail just feet away from the lake and offers backcountry camping opportunities by simply jumping over to the backpacking trail. The trails are always very well maintained with any blow down cut and cleared from the trail every time I've visited. The trails are well blazed making it easy to find your way. I highly recommend visiting Lake Vesuvius! If you do visit this beautiful section of Wayne National Forest, please be respectful and LEAVE NO TRACE. If you packed it in, pack it out and help keep this...

The trail that goes all the way around the lake has great sights, and there's a lot of history to learn about the area. I LOVE the RV parks and tent sites here, iron ridge is more integrated into the woods so you really feel like you're camping and not just glamping. It doesn't have all of the amenities as some more popular camp sights, but it's still loads...
