Long Hollow Scenic Overlook — Attraction in Elizabeth Township

Great place to watch the Sunrise, but really breathtaking and serene any time of day. There will be some road noise from the highway behind you, however, in between the rise and fall of shifting engines, you can hear the plaintive moo'ing of cows, the screeching of hawks hunting in the distance, and all the other sights and sounds you'd expect from this gorgeous rolling farmland. It's worth noting there is also a tree-lined rest stop in the center of the loop that sends you back to the highway, but the overlook is best viewed and accessed by parking on the straightaway immediately after exiting. From the Quad Cities we used to travel up Illinois hwy84 just to stop at the overlook and climb the tower to enjoy the incredible view....guess we will be taking hwy61 in Iowa now as it will make the trip shorter. Just saw the street sign last minute and took a chance. What a great view! It was on a hill and really windy and it was strong, so I didn't stay long. It's definitely worth a visit, and even hang out on a lawn chair with a coffee and enjoy the view for a little while. I would love to see it in the winter and summer to see all its greenery.
