My wife and I had our wedding here at Elmore state park, the beach house. We reserved approximately 9 different sites all next to each other except 2. So there’s no one else around us. We had her family and my family up for the wedding. The wedding night we had a fire roasted marshmallows for s’mores. Bear in mind that everyone is just talking. There wasn’t any yelling of any sort, no music, we weren’t partying. This guy who works for the park (I think he’s a volunteer) stalked our site since 9:30pm on his golf cart thing. I was walking by to help out another family member blow up an air mattress and he must not of realized that I was with them at first. He looked panicked as I was heading back to the site he was stalking and asked if I was with them and I obviously said yes. “They really need to be whispering, they can’t be talking like this” I told him that they really weren’t loud and that they were just talking. Again bear in mind… there’s no one else on this side because I reserved it all. This was before 10pm (quiet hours in which the rules just say reasonably quiet). Fast forward to just after 10pm most everyone is getting ready to head back to their sites of which I reserved and he comes back and comes between us on our site and screams “this really needs to be a whisper!” We looked at him and said “ok have good night sir, be on your way!”. I personally have been coming at Elmore for years and have never been treated this way. This guy needs to get a life and a reminder that people camp for many reasons one of which to talk around campfires. This will probably be our last time...
Read moreWe arrived in the rain for a tent camp, and were delighted to discover they had Lean-tos available for that night! The attendant upgraded our accommodation without hesitation, and was helpful and courteous.
The lean-to was sturdy, spacious, clean and dry, with a front porch overhang. It was a tad cold in the morning, but it was October!. The view from our site was beautiful, and the campground wasn't busy, so we had a lot of undisturbed quiet time.
The bathrooms were clean, though a little run-down and outdated. The were electric lights inside, some plug outlets, and one coin-operated shower.
We bought 2 bundles of firewood, but couldn't use the wheelbarrow provided to take them back to our site since the front wheel was totally kaput.
We had time to do the short nature walk before leaving for our next destination. It was well laid out and signposted. The forest and river trail was beautiful.
We'd definitely go back and...
