Did the Grand Palace 90 min tour at 9am this morning and it was a steal for the $10 cost! The tours for the day were sold out because of the Astronomy Festival, so I would definitely recommend calling ahead and securing your tour with a res.

The cave itself is just gorgeous with some spectacular column formations and shields! This tour takes your through several portions of the cave, my fav being the inscription room where you can see smoke markings from early visitors, there was a penciled signature from 1906 and one heading out from 1902!

The formations are just incredible in this cave and you are able to stop and take pictures and inspect the formations (just remember not to touch them as this cave is stil active and growing). You can bring in a camera and a flashlight, but not anything else.

Our ranger guide was highly informative and I had fun assisting her by being the "caboose" in our large group to make sure everyone stayed together and we kept the group moving to stay on time.

Highly recommend as this is a...

I highly recommend visiting this park because there is this amazing cave system! This park has the most shield formations anywhere in the world, which were explained to me by a ranger to be very unique formations. I did the hour and a half tour and I didn't purchase tickets ahead of time. They have a limited number of tickets to purchase as a walk-in but you have to get to the ranger station as soon as they open because people do line up. I guess I count myself lucky because I got there 5 minutes after opening and got in line and was able to secure a tour. It wasn't the palace tour which is their 2-hour tour, but it was the next best thing! If you're traveling in the area definitely make this part of your stop. This is one of the most quiet and peaceful national parks I've...

This review is for the brunette woman ranger who decided not to provide us any information. We asked about the cave tours and she basically blew us off, telling us we needed to make a call to get a reservation and never mentioning once that we could just get up early and get on a tour, as some spots are reservable and some are first come first serve. Because of this, we didn’t do the tour. Informative rangers like her could easily be replaced by computers, so it would be nice if they took their job, one which many folks would be happy to have, more seriously and just took the time to inform visitors of their options. It wasn’t even like it was busy, she just didn’t want to talk to us. :( Otherwise, Great Basin National Park was a lovely, dark sky...

I've done at least a dozen major cave tours in the U.S. and this is the worst tour I've been on. They lost power in most of the cave so I only got to see the first chamber, which is slightly larger than my garage with nothing unique in it. Actually, my garage would be a better tour. They had a tour guide named Madi who was so young I'm still wondering if she gave them a fake ID when she applied for the job. Honestly, if you gave me a map and a floodlight from Home Depot, I could give a better tour just completely winging it: stalactite, stalagmite, column, drapery, cave bacon, 100 million years, blah, blah, blah. They should seal the cave off and give it back to nature. This is a huge waste of our tax dollars.

Ranger Will was fun, engaging and knowledgeable. Be sure to make reservations prior to going because there are limited tours throughout the day and each tour allows only 20 visitors. The cave tour lasts about 1.5 hrs and they are extensive. The walkway can be slippery in some areas and there are spots were the ceiling is very low. The caves are about 50 degrees inside. You aren't allowed to touch any part of the caves and the lighting is very low. There is so much to see and lots of history. Absolutely worth the money and the time to see them if you are in the area of Great Basin Nat'l Park
