This is a really quiet area, with great views, and multiple trails to explore. There is not usually a port a potty in this portion of the park, but the trails are well worn, making it perfect for families, and less experienced outdoors persons. Great place for a hike, walking dogs, fishing, and kayaking some times of the year. Each February they have a kayak race that can be a lot of fun to watch, but is often too shallow most of the rest of the year. The fishing is also very seasonal through most of the area, but there are fish if you look. The park doesn’t close for the winter, but does offer some forms of hunting and trapping, so make sure to put bells on collars of your pets for piece of mind. Also ticks can be bad, so make sure to check all kids and pets after your visit. Overall this is a great section of the Scantic River Linear Park, with trails to make your way through a good part of the park, but still offers a lot of uncharted area for wanderers. Make sure to bring bug spray as there is plenty of sitting water for mosquito larvae. Ticks too can be prevented with most insect repellents, but always...
Read moreThis is a beautiful and quiet wooded park to spend time in. We only passed by two other people the entire time, and both were friendly. The trail we walked on followed the Scantic River, and it was also really nice to read the signboards on the Braille Trail that gave some information about the river. The trails were well-marked, and care needs to be taken while hiking on some of the areas as there are tree roots on them. Several park benches were available along the hike. Since some areas of the trails weren't passable due to lack of maintenance, I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5. We are definitely going back to explore some of the...
Read moreThis is a hidden treasure. My girlfriend and I both tried this place before we met and was disappointed as we only found an overground path. Recently we decided to try it again and was extremely happy with the changes that were made. The paths have been opened up and this is our new favorite place for a beautiful walk. The pathes lead along the Scantic River with stops to view the river and listen to the peaceful sounds of the fleeting water. You are transported into the middle of a dense forest that you are not aware of the traffic that is close. The bench is one of our favorite places to sit and relax...
