This company encourages their employees to illegally panhandle in the middle of the street during sunrise. Bay City ordinance does not allow panhandling in the street. You are also violating Michigan state law MCL 750.167.
Some guy dressed in a knights of Columbus safety vest has been seen illegally panhandling on Wilder road standing in the left hand turn lane and proceeds to walk out and impede traffic trying to solicit/panhandle money from motor vehicles. Panhandling is a constitutionally protected activity but you cannot impede traffic to do so , it is very clearly stated in the ordinance that you may not go in the street to panhandle or solicit vehicles.
Knights of Columbus please be aware of all ordinances here in Bay City and have your employees stop illegally impeding traffic and illegally panhandling/soliciting in the future, this would be greatly appreciated and we would like to encourage the best from you and we would appreciate your cooperation in the future regarding following our state laws and city ordinances. Please inform your employees of our local ordinances and try to keep them safer in the future by not performing illegal Acts of impeding the flow of traffic and panhandling / soliciting vehicles in the middle of traffic.
Edit: not against the cause against the execution. Maybe legal doesn't mean it's smart or safe even if wearing equipment. Even if it's legal you can't have them jumping out in front of cars waving them down during green lights. I understand you might have a permit allowing you to do it but still keep them safer in the future, weird could have swore you couldn't solicit for charity and streets or near bank's or ATMs, especially when said solicitation interferes with the flow of traffic daytime or not you shouldn't be having your volunteers jumping in front of cars waving them down. The volunteer needs to wait on the sidewalk and wait for a red light to proceed to walk out and see if anyone is interested in donating. Volunteers should not be waiting in the left hand turn lane preventing people from turning on a Green arrow, panhandling is legal it just can't impede the flow of traffic that's the whole point.
Safety and common Sense is the concern. We all know the area is terrible for drunk drivers at that time of day and nobody wants to see somebody get killed or injured when it could have easily been avoided altogether. Path to hell was paved with good intentions, doesn't matter how good your intent is if you go about it the wrong way it's still going...
