I wish I could post this with 0 stars. If you would like a short review: If you plan on playing adult league at this rink, don't.
The rink.
We have had a game rescheduled due to a sheet of ice melting down before our game, and even were forced to play 1 game on a sheet that was actively melting while being told "We might pull you off at any time." I understand that this is an ice rink in Texas in the spring/summer, but if you're going to host an NA3HL team, it's a pretty bad look. Overall half of the showers don't even have shower heads, the benches are always just littered with trash and the place is just not very well kept.
The adult leagues.
We have been forced to sit a season due to them "wanting to create a family friendly atmosphere". Any altercation we have been in on the ice has been started by other teams/players, we have been given unfair suspensions under USA Hockey rules, we treat the place with respect and clean after ourselves and probably have the most people coming to watch us on a weekly basis with several players bringing their kids to their games.
Where I draw the line is when they spout this line after I have emailed them about a specific player insulting and verbally assaulting my wife after the game in the lobby while she was alone, and their response to said email is "You cannot reach out right after the game has finalized. A 24-48 hour cooldown time must be finished before any communication happens."
And then they say they want to create a family friendly...
Read moreIf you like to skate just for fun and exercise, go somewhere else. Three reasons:
They will change the schedule for public skate at the last minute, and there is no system to notify you of these changes (and it's not as if the online schedule is user-friendly to begin with). So if you work, go to school, or otherwise have a busy schedule you won't be able to plan ahead for your workouts. You have to call ahead (that day) to make sure they have it, but that's not helpful when you've already scheduled other obligations to accommodate the times they had posted online. I understand that hockey is the money-maker for rinks and they need to move public sessions around because of it, but even the very hockey-centric NYTEX doesn't pull schedule changes like this.
The price for a public skate pass went up. It's now $75 monthly, and they currently have only two sessions posted for this month.
The skate guards don't do very much to prevent disorder (and unfortunately, often create it with their friends). They're only kids, after all, so I understand. But why pay them for playing tag with their friends and doing spider-lunges across the middle of the ice?
I hate writing this review because I actually really like the rink itself, but an honest account may help other hobby skaters avoid the...
Read moreWe have been in the Skate Academy for only six months, and they (corporate office) have had three different pricing structures during this time! Prices have increased dramatically, and now there are no free public skates with lessons. Even worse, there are NO make-up classes or refunds if your child gets sick and has to miss a class. My kids have done multiple activities in the past 13 years, and I have NEVER experienced an organization that not only is so confused on the business side but also so oblivious to and inflexible regarding the needs of families, particularly when it comes to the need for families to plan their budgets without "surprise" changes every-other-month. It's a real shame, too, because the teachers appear to be very caring (I say "appear" because they do not have time between classes to talk to parents. I have never actually spoken to an instructor in the six months we have been there, but my child seems happy...
