Our KOA RV home base while visiting St Louis was right on Historic Route 66. While there, we visited Route 66 State Park, which used to be the town of Times Beach. I learned that after toxic chemicals were applied to the roads and after experiencing multiple floods, the town was condemned and demolished. It was a devastating time for the folks living there.

Years later, the park system stepped in, abated the dioxin, and created a recreational area.

I was told that the conversion of the old bridge that connects the visitor center to the rest of the park is being converted to a pedestrian bridge, which is expected to be completed in 2026. I'm sure the community will have a big...

We were in the area for Six Flags and decided to go here. I love history, and being able to walk part of this road and place a foot on the marker was just plain old fun! The visitors center has a museum and a lot of historical pieces that were so cool to see along with a gift shop. The clerk was fun to talk with, and we made sure to put out pins on the map. The experience that I got to share with my niece on this trip was great. It's not far at all of the great, and you can also see the bridge that has been decommissioned and the road removed. It doesn't take long to go there, so if you are in the area, and have the chance to do...

Part of the iconic Route 66. We were unaware that this MO State Park even existed. At this time the park is in 2 parts, divided by the currently unrestored bridge across the Meramac river. The visitor center is off exit 266, while the main park is off 265 on highway 44. The park has about 424 acres, hiking, biking, and horse riding trails plus access to the river for boating activities. The visitor center is worth a visit for the gift shop plus a little exhibit of Route 66 area memorabilia. We were pleasantly surprised, and were glad we found this state park. At the time of our visit the leave were on the verge of...
