Howell Wetlands is one of those special places that feels like a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. I’ve visited at different times of the day, butĀ sunsetĀ is absolutely magical here. The golden light filters through the trees, reflects off the water, and brings the whole place to life. It's like stepping into a living painting. The trails wind through a variety of habitats, including marshes, woodlands, and open fields. Each one is filled with native plants and wildlife. One of my favorite things is that it’sĀ dog friendly! 🐶 I bring my pup along every time, and she loves the variety of smells and sights. The trails are well-maintained but still feel wild and natural. Howell Wetlands is beautiful and serene. Highly recommend catching golden hour here.

Our family loves Howell wetlands. I sometimes have a hard time with uneven terrain but the boardwalks are easy to traverse and there are benches on occasion to rest. There is a bit of a walk down a path before you get to the boardwalk but it's not terribly difficult. We've enjoyed seeing all the beautiful wildflowers and butterflies in addition to the turtles. One visit we got to observe an area where beavers had been at work šŸ’œ

Sooo we have gone here every summer for like 6 years now and usually it's pretty awesome. You get to see all kinds of animals and wildlife. Not this year. It was infested with mosquitos, they were even going after the dogs and we were covered in bug spray. I dont know if it was the new damns the beavers built or what but it was terrible. All of the water was just sitting, we saw no wildlife with the exception of the bugs. It was still very clean and the boardwalks are well maintained. The bathrooms were closed which was disappointing to not only us but the big group of senior citizens that were walking the trails. Usually we spend hours here. Unfortunately we barely spent a whole hour...

This is a great place to escape into nature without getting too far away from your car. It's a good place to just walk a bit and enjoy seeing a wide variety of plants and flowers, birds and other animals. I went with a small group of friends and family and we all enjoyed our time. The tree cover significantly cuts down on the heat which is nice because it was 85+ degrees outside but it definitely didn't feel that hot once we got into the shade. I've lived in Evansville my entire life and this was my first time at Howell Wetlands but I'll definitely go back. It would be nice if there were more benches/seating when possible. I think we only passed two benches and one was in...
