I have been visiting this church for the past few weeks, and initially have been blessed by the praise and worship team! My wife and I along with our 2 yr old have tried to attend the 10 or 11:30 service on Sundays, and have considered becoming members. However a recent experience made us realize that BlackRock is more of a performance (like a Sight and Sound/Broadway show) and less of place to actually walk-in and worship our Lord. Here's why...
At a recent service, our 2 yr old made a few noises (as 2 yr olds do) during the sermon (certainly nothing too disruptive). One of the staff member kept staring at us the whole time. My wife and I didnt want to cause much disruption and after 5mins, we walked out of the worship hall, figuring we would head to the family room. The staff member (older man) followed us, walked us out of the worship hall, gave us a look and told us to "BE MORE UNDERSTANDING". Like seriously? Meaning, we should never dare come to the worship center with a 2yr old and stay outside? It made us so uncomfortable, we walked out of that building. Guessing the lesson here is... If you have children, they better be quiet while BlackRock does their performance.
To the leadership, I just want to point out Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Children are meant to worship with parents, not sit as pariahs in a separate room playing with blocks.
Psalm 8:2 "Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength"
But hey, if you want a attend a concert and perfectly choreographed performance on Sundays, this is the place. We will still attend the concerts at BlackRock but for worshipping our Lord and Savior, we will stick to where we are welcomed (along with our children who may act their age) as part of the...
Read moreOur family has been looking for a Christian church that is bible-based. The teachings found in the bible, especially in the gospels, have been rewarding and life-changing for me and my family. Churches we have attended have focused on interpreting and understanding the meaning of our Lord's word during the service. It has been instructional, thought-provoking, and faith-inspiring.
We have found the Black Rock Church community to be extremely welcoming. It is also attractive as a facility. There is a great vibe in the building. It is true the service is much like a rock/pop concert experience. This has attracted my kids and I am grateful. However. I am conflicted. I am looking for a church that, during the service, will place emphasis on leading me and my family to a deeper meaning of the words written in the bible.
My prayer is that service leaders at Black Rock Church place more emphasis on the instructional power of words contained in the bible and insert this instruction...
Read moreI attended church to support a pastor and friend that was originally from my church. I have to say that the experience was wonderful and that I was greeted by several people before I even entered the building who spoke nothing but pleasantries and compliments. Upon entering I found a wonderful Cafe and a very active Welcome Center. I did not spend a lot of time talking to anyone but went into the Worship Center to secure front row seats. I enjoyed the service immensely, the praise team and choir were wonderful and the service was exactly as represented.....started at 10:00 am and over at 11:00....
